Is it OK to take pics of food whilst dining?

I always take pictures of my food, even when not on a cruise. We appreciate the effort that many chefs put into their presentation. But when on a cruise and sharing a table with others, I let them know at the beginning and ask them to go ahead and eat...no need to wait on me. I never ask to take pics of their food, but they always offer their dishes if it is something we had not ordered. I guess I've been really lucky that our tablemates have always shared our excitement and passion for the food.

When we invite new friends to start cruising, they invariably ask about food, and they always enjoy all of the pics that we have collected.

I wouldn’t have a problem with someone taking photos of their food but there is no way I am going to pass around my plate for someone to take a picture of my food. I have seen too many people use the restroom and not wash their hands afterwards.

Hi All! a035.gif

Is it OK to take pics of food whilst dining in any of the venues? Do you consider it tacky/rude? Thanks in advance for your responses.

It is certainly ok with me as I take many pictures of my food and have never heard of any complaints of my doing so.

I never gave it a thought. I was in the restaurant on the Eiffel tower and I took pics of my dinner & dessert. Also, in London, took pictures in a proper pub and the fish n chips there too. No one said anything or looked at me funny. It's the norm these days.

My son is a chef and a blogger and takes pictures of his and his partner's food at every possible occasion. Nothing wrong with taking photos at all. We love to see what he has been eating and the comments he makes about the food. Keep at it, share the pleasure.

I can't begin to imagine why anyone would have any problem, at all, with a traveler taking photos.

It is mind boggling how easily some people might be offended. Wow.

(as long as it is just one's food, and not photos of other people...)

Having said that...

I have never heard of passing plates around.

Sorry, but that just ain't happening.

My plate goes nowhere, and nobody else touches my plate!

I've had this happen to me more than once. The waiter is bringing my dinner to me and someone nearby says "oh, that's looks good ...what is it?" ... and he stops and shows them and tells them what it is. A 2nd table did the same ... same visit, same time and I had to call the waiter over to serve me my food.
