Maniacal Cruiser Posted September 17, 2018 #51 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Does this make anyone else think of Les Nessman and his flying turkeys? Are you suggesting a pig drop? :)
Rare Tapi Posted September 17, 2018 #52 Share Posted September 17, 2018 There are pig farms all around where I live, and many have ponds. Who the hell decided that this is a vacation attraction? Now I'm convinced that there are idiots who will pay for anything. I am dying over this! I can't even imagine what a laughing stock these tourists are. The original story about the pigs that were stranded in a deserted island in the Exumas and somehow managed to adapt and survive on their own is what caused the initial attention and fascination from the traveling public . But I agree that the “copycat” pigs placed by greedy people in more touristy locales for the sole purpose of extracting cash from unsuspecting tourists who think that these pigs are the real deal is laughable and even worse, pure exploitation. Well some people go on vacation to do things they normally do not do in their daily life, I have lived in NYC my entire life so we do not have pig farms or ponds for them to play in so for me pigs are a novelty. When I am on a cruise I would prefer to do something besides complain over chair hogs/smokers/drinkers/perfume wearers/fashion choices during dinner/DSC/tips/upcharges/time cuts/port changes etc etc etc. Basically what I am saying it’s my money and how I choose to spend it is my own business. If I want to spend it on pigs or sloths that is between me and the pigs and sloths.

OCruisers Posted September 18, 2018 #57 Share Posted September 18, 2018 It has been years since we sailed on NCL but I just heard about this excursion. No thank you -- I have no desire to swim with the pigs. KK ... Can't even begin to picture you and your DH swimming with pigs!:eek: :D

I totally get that, and I’m the same way. The only difference is that I try to do things that have something to do with where I’m going. I want to experience those places, cultures, etc. To each his own though. Have fun!

I get what your saying but I am not a once a year cruiser or someone who didn’t do the same itinerary 20 times. To me it’s a new and interesting excursion. I have swam with dolphins, sea lions, sting rays etc many times so pigs will just be another animal to add to the list. If NCL would hurry up and finish the upgrades to GSC I probably wouldn’t even look at doing an excursion off of their island but since there is no word on that it’s something different to do while there. Maniacal Cruiser Posted September 18, 2018 #61 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Well some people go on vacation to do things they normally do not do in their daily life. There is a LOT That I do not do in my daily life that I still do not want to do on a vacation. Swimming in a pond full of farm animal excrement is absolutely on that list! BTW did you know that the saying "sweating like a pig is inaccurate. Pigs do not sweat! This is why the wallow in mud to cool down... City girl learned something new. :) Go drink to that... Cheers to that! 🍸 Never said they were swimming in mud. I said I don't want to be in a POND full of farm animals. As a side fact I mentioned that pigs do not sweat and explained that is why pigs will wallow in mud. Two completely different points. Your analogy of swimming in poop is akin to saying you have no problem sucking on a pipe spewing pure arsenic because it occurs in the air naturally. Maniacal Cruiser Posted September 18, 2018 #65 Share Posted September 18, 2018 It’s not a pond, it’s an ocean. Its a body of water as opposed to mud. While swimming with pigs, it is a toilet bowl. Enjoy yourself and whatever diseases you catch.
janpo Posted September 18, 2018 #66 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Why does anyone care what excursion the Op does? You're not doing it. If she wants to , she's more than entitled to do what she wants, not what pleases anyone else. Wouldn't be my choice either, but she has a right to do it. Not to mention crowded beach areas with dozens of seagulls flying over.
DZcreature Posted September 18, 2018 #68 Share Posted September 18, 2018 I just watched two videos of the pigs at Rose Island. They seem to enjoy swimming and playing on the beach. Better than being bacon!! Definitely "made for the tourists", but the resort looks like a fun change of pace for some one who has been to GSC many times before. cruiser123! Posted September 18, 2018 #69 Share Posted September 18, 2018 OP, I'm not intrigued by this idea! I wasn't sure what to do in GSC, and the idea of spending hundreds to sit in a cabana and look at the ocean seems silly when i've already spent hundreds to sit on my balcony and watch the ocean from the ship. Not too often can one say they swam w/ a pig ;-) Enjoy!
