LizT Posted April 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Is this anything to get excited about? Our travel agent gave us the upgrade after we complained about being booked as seniors, which she and her GM assured us we are not. Anyway, maybe I'm paranoid, just hope she is not pretending to be nice, then stick us in a s*cky room for complaining.

stlrboo Posted April 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2004 any upgrade is a good start..! They'll probably remember you, and since you are from PA you'll probably end up with a Penthouse Suite! SLR&BJC Posted April 4, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I am totally confused by this "upgrade" stuff. I booked with Carnival thru my timeshare and have a gauranteed 6B...... Is "A" better than "B" or is "C" better than "B"?? Have been told you can ask for an upgrade when you are embarking???
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted April 4, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2004 For the most part, an upgrade is meaningless unless you jump from say a 4 to a 6 or 8... though Carnival will charge $20-30-40 to make the little jumps > 4a>4b>4c (within the same cat) uprgades within cat's are like getting the 3rd floor of a hotel instead of the 2nd....because the room is the SAME..! not wanting to rain on any parades here - those are "feel good" upgrades. cruisinfanatic Posted April 4, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2004 last poster is correct. I have to laugh when someone posts that the've been upgraded from 4A to 4D or 8A to 8B and it's so wonderful to have this free upgrade. It's the same exact cabin. You're just on a different level in many cases. Crazsea Posted April 4, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Some people are happy even greatful to be upgraded to a higher deck on the ship. I think it's a great plus, and it didn't cost a nickel!
momofmeg Posted April 4, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I feel the same way about upgrades and I know from experience it makes little difference. On Fascination we were on the upper deck inside cabin-on Inspiration we were on the empress deck outside cabin. The only difference in the 2 cabins I could see is we had a window on Inspiration-cabin, bathroom the exact same size. Also for the main dinningroom you are closer on these decks- the only advantage of being a higher deck is you are closer to the Lido-but you go down for everything else. And since these ships have elevators WHO cares what deck you are on. Our cruise coming up on Miracle is a guaranteed 8A-that means we have a balcony-I don't give a flip if it is on upper, riveria, empress, main or whatever as long as I have that balcony. sea-cruise Posted April 4, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 4, 2004 momofmeg, You feel like I do. We'll be in obstructed view balcony cabins because I had to book 2 (big kids over 6 ft tall) and had to save a little money wherever possible...(will spend it elsewhere on the ship, I know!) It's our 1st Carnival so I know we won't get an upgrade, but happy to be aboard!!!! INCHARGE Posted April 4, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 4, 2004 LizT..your upgraded cabin is now on the Verandah deck, one floor down from the Lido deck. Just think, you will only have to walk up one flight to get to the pool. The good thing is that you are not right over the pool, you are under cabins, so you won't hear the deck chairs moving around like some have posted about. You are about 5 cabins down from the elevators/steps. excellent! There may also be another upgrade in your future because your cabin has an upper bed as well, which may be needed for a group with 3 people, unless you have more than 2. In that case, you will need it yourself. Either way, it looks like a great location. I would love it. Enjoy your cruise. LizT Posted April 4, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Thanks Incharge, it does look like a great location. We can always hope for a better upgrade, but won't have a terrible cruise without one.
tef43 Posted April 4, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 4, 2004 In general, an 8C is exactly the same cabin as an 8A, just two decks higher. This may or may not be a *better* location, it all depends on your personal preferences. Tom <--- Curmudgeon of the Seas Eleven cruises so far.
