i normally sail NCL because they have GREAT deals for solos.

i got a free 4day cruise on Celebrity Infinity from my land casino (Mgm).

it sails out of Florida.

my nearest port is NJ.

instead of taking that cruise, i can use it as $375 credit towards any other cruise at a discounted casino rate.

How often does Celebrity have deals for solos?

if you google "exciting deals" you'll find the pdf that's released each tuesday from rccl with Celebrity's most recent price cuts.  In the past several months there have been some that charge 75% rather than 100%. That's about as good as I've found on a regular basis, but the rates even at 100% for some of those 5 night Infinity sailings are pretty awesome. For example Family veranda cabins-- literally a 2 room suite with massive aft corner balcony-- for less than $600pp double $1098 single. Those rooms, although suites in layout do not come with celebrity's suite amenities, but for space, both interior and exterior, they're hard to beat.

Why not? Well, partly because they don’t have to — their ships are sailing full.

remember that singles don’t spend as much as couples.  The base price charged for the stateroom is almost a “loss leader”.  The line depends on people booking shore excursions, spa treatments, photo packages, specialty dining etc to make their money.  Single don’t do as much of that as couples do, and of course, only book one, not two at a time.  The single supplement is a way to recover some of the lost revenue they would get if that stateroom was booked by two people instead of one.

The base price is very much a flexible construct.

Since I booked my Celebrity cruise on the 29 October the per person base price has increased by £900 with the total price per couple now being offset by a new offer of a 50% reduction for the second person.

A single person might be more prepared to bite the bullet of additional cost options than a couple.

When =X= has a 50% off the second guest offer, they almost always increase the price of the first pax, so that the net price is usually the same or similar as the price for two prior to the sale.  Obviously, if the supply vs. demand has changed, the net price could change as well.

FWIW

The new EDGE has 16 solo cabins on Deck 6 which appear to have obstructed views. They tend to book quickly. The pricing for a small single Edge veranda for our friend sailing with us on next month's Maiden Voyage was about 75% of what we paid for the two of us in an E3.  .

When single friends and I first heard about the solo cabins on Edge and checked out the cabins and the pricing we concluded that we would rather pay a tiny bit more and have a real cabin.  The single cabins are small and not that much cheaper than paying the 200% supplement.  And I disagree about singles spending less onboard, but what do I know, I'm just a dumb single with over 200 nights on board.

Well you do get the Captains Points for the missing person and you do not have to pay the port taxes.   There might be something else they leave out of the cost but I do not remember.  😄

if pre-paying tips, one is only charged for 1--i find that a bit unfair that Celebrity gets their share but leaves staff to depend on the kindness of the solo traveler. Last time I checked, making up a bed and vacuuming a room required the same effort for 1 as for 2.

Well, of course singles pay less than two people.  On a per capita basis, they may spend just as much, but they seldom make up for the missing second person.  They can't take two shore excursions or eat two dinners or get two haircuts simultaneously 🙂

We don't pay much less than two people.  Gratuities and port charges are relatively minor in the scheme of things.  Most of us who have been cruising for some time would be taking private shore excursions and not getting our hair cut on board.
