Condition of Pacific Princess?

Can anyone comment on the condition of the Pacific Princess?  I am also looking for comments on the likes and dislikes VS other Princess ships?

We love the Pacific Princess. We spent 48 days on her earlier this year. The biggest complaint is that the chairs in the Pacific Lounge are not comfortable.

 

She is different from the other Princess ships because she is much smaller. She holds about 680 passengers where the next smallest holds about 2000. This allows her to do itineraries that will not sell enough to fill the bigger ships. It also lets her get into ports that cannot take the bigger ships.

Was the Pacific kept in good condition?

Were the number of activities drastically reduced due to her size?

No art auction.

Smaller casino than the larger ships.

No anytime dining. No International Cafe.

Two specialty restaurants, but only one open each evening.

Production shows have fewer cast members but they do a great job. Also less scenery and props.

A lot of the same activities as on the larger ships, but instead of having several to chose from at a time, there may only be one or two.

I vaguely remember them too from a while ago, but it could be a faulty memory or it may have been on one of the other R ships that Princess used to have.

We are looking for the navigational map that Princess usually auctions off.   If the Pacific doesnt have that then we may shift to the Royal or possibly even Holland.

There were art auctions on the Pacific and the other little girls, but they are gone.

JMO, of course. but I am a very big fan of the Pacific Princess, having sailed on her and her used-to-be sisters several times in the past. MY enjoyment of her is so much that I have 2 cruises booked on her for 2019 … a 15 day Panama Canal in the Spring, and  29 day Transatlantic from Venice to Ft Lauderdale in the late Fall.

She is a beautiful "little lady", and quite different from the rest of the fleet. The ambiance onboard is low key and intimate. Due to her small size, one can get from one end of her to the other in just a few minutes. The elevators are almost never busy. Because passengers see their same fellow passengers and crew day after day, making new cruise friends happens easily. The ship's officers are often out and about around the ship, and seem to be more approachable than on bigger ships.

The shows take place in a large lounge, rather than a theater, and if you're sitting in the front few rows, the performers are right there in front of you because they are performing on what is also the dance floor. Those performers don't just perform …. they have other duties during the day, and  you see them out and about doing whatever they are assigned to.. I've gotten to know several of them because they worked in public areas like assisting passengers in the internet café or the gift shop  or maybe working as part of the activity staff for the cruise director.

On sea days, there are numerous activities available, just as they are on the bigger ships. The amenities are the same as on the rest of the fleet …… just on a smaller scale.

I have cruised many times on most of the ships in the Princess fleet, but the Pacific is my absolute all-time favorite.

We won the Pacific Princess navigational chart on our May 2016 trans canal cruise.  On our 2 cruises on different Princess ships, the didn't even put the chart up.  I was told there is no longer any need to do it since the TV shows the ships position.  So sad!

Our Last princess cruise was in 2015.   They were still auctioning off the Maps.  Have they stopped since?

We were on the Pacific Princess May through July this year, three segments, and yes, they auctioned off the maps of the voyage each time.

 

While I'm here, let me point out the casino on the Pacific Princess is small and was 100% non-smoking for our voyages.

 

At her dry dock in 2017, cabin furnishings were replaced. Much brighter than before. Also, the bedside lamps have USB charging ports in them. Welcome to the 21st century!

The map is usually auctioned off just before the last BINGO session, in the same location (the Cabaret Lounge, i think - the main show lounge). We last saw it done two years ago (missed it last Christmas). Hope to see it in a couple of weeks!

 

BTW - the map is usually hung right beside one of the doors in the pool area, at least on the Pacific, as I recall. I could be wrong, but that's my recollection. 

 

We love the small R3 ships. I think almost half of my cruises were on one.
