realnice46 Posted March 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2019 (edited) I would have posted this on Alaska forum but not much activity there. Trying to decide on which tour company to use in Skagway for Yukon/Bennett Lake tour. CelebrityYukon Adventure, Chilkoot Yukon Rail & Bus excursion , Frontier Excursions Yukon Discovery tour or Dyea Dave Emerald Lake tour . All similar in price, just thought if anyone had experience with these companies and those particular tours. We will be on Eclipse May 2019. We used Chilkoot Yukon Rail and Bus excursion (bus up, rail back). It was great!!

We used Chilkoot and did the opposite... rail up and small bus back. It was a super trip and the company provided excellent service.

Barwick Cruiser Posted March 8, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Another vote for Chilkoot, but we didn't go to Emerald Lake...we took the last cruise of the season and that tour was no longer offered..guessing too much snow for the roads? Its definitely on our list for the next time we're in Skagway! Chilkoot service was super tho and very informative!

Northern Aurora Posted March 8, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Realnice46: Have you skimmed the trip reports (organized by year) on the CC Alaska forum? Most, if not all, of the companies you listed have been mentioned in those reports, and the posters also often have included photos of their experience as well. TardisDance Posted March 9, 2019 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2019 We used Chilkoot for Bennett Lake/Yukon. We did rail up, bus down. It was great because we got the very last train car and it was just for those on the tour. Since the car wasn't full, we were able to switch sides easily and even go outside on the car for pictures (beware it's very bumpy!). It was totally worth booking with them for this alone. It included lunch which was a decent sized sandwich on a roll (I think turkey was the meat) with potato chips, cheese and grapes, a cookie and bottled water. Additional bottled water was available. I believe there were different options if you had dietary restrictions but it had to be arranged ahead of time.
SbbquilterUT Posted March 9, 2019 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2019 We rented a car and drove the Yukon Highway, stopping wherever we wanted along the way. As we were a family of 6 it was an adventure and much less costly than an excursion. Remember to bring your passport as you cross into Canada. Scenery is spectacular.
