puli Posted May 10, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) I know there once was a list of which "Window Suites" had foggy windows. We are considering cruising on the Star and noticed a warning on a cruise deck plan site that foggy windows still exist. Does anyone still have that old list or, even better, is there a new list? don't-use-real-name Posted May 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Those FOGGY windows were on deck 12 forward - some worse than others. Sailed the STAR - Oct 14 - 12012 - had one of the 2 windows partially frosted - adjacent cabin 12016 had 2 of the 4 almost completely frosted over. Cabin difference 12012 is Balcony SD cabin 12016 Family SJ Image below panel behind red curtain is the one with the problem --- This had been going on for quite some time and to change the windows required some heavy equipment to lift the very heavy windows out of their frame (not a usual routine dry-dock procedure) replacing and sealing waterproofing the new inserts (the excuse I was given). STAR went thru a dry-dock just after that and the windows were not touched. The DAWN the sister ship I don't recall reading reports of any window troubles there although the set up is the same. Impressive almost floor to ceiling windows giving a grand view and then to be spoiled by this foggy/frosting delamination of the glass.
bonvoyagie Posted May 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Both the Star and Dawn had extensive work done on deck 12 that removed a lounge area and added suites - both ships have issues with fogged windows. I agree that it is a shame that these suites with such wonderful views have fogged windows. I also know that the Dawn had a major redo in 2016 and as far as I know the windows were still not fixed. jethrojam Posted May 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2019 I was on the Dawn in SJ before the Dry Dock. Yes they fogged a little but nothing that ruined the trip by any stretch of the imagination.
don't-use-real-name Posted May 11, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Also it is not on the inside or outside of the windows --- it is in the lamination of the safety glass. Two pieces of glass with a clear plastic panel in between bonding the glass into one piece. Note the SJ class Family Suite is the least expensive full suite with Butler and Concierge services on the DAWN & STAR ! While no balcony there are 4 huge glass panels for viewing. caribsun Posted May 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Add the Jade for foggy windows throughout the ship.
Barb Nahoumi Posted May 11, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2019 As others have stated, I noticed foggy windows in my deck 12 suite a few years ago. In no way did it negatively impact my cruise experience. I spent a great part of my days either outside, or on excursions.
dexddd Posted May 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2019 We've had foggy windows on Star but years ago. Butler did his best...oh, this is new... act. It can impact your trip depending how many are fogged. I've posted pictures but way back. Haven't seen much lately.
