Sovereign clock is working!

Recommended Posts

Let's see.......what else?

Captain is Richard Brearley from Canada.

DC is still Johnny O. :(

Food is excellent.

Oceanview cabin has NO safe and NO refrigerator.

Attacking shower curtain, but slightly larger shower. (go figure)

Nice amenities in cabin. (my first cruise as Diamond) Toiletries in bathroom. Chocolate covered strawberries delivered yesterday. Invitation to reception. Robe in room.

Special invitation to nominate ONE RC employee for "special service." :D :D :D

And I am NOT using expensive RC onboard minutes. We're in an internet cafe in Nassau.

BYE GUYS............

IIRC, the clock was repaired during Sovereign's last drydock which was filmed and shown as a multi-part series on either TLC or Discovery or A&E. I think the program was called "Drydock: A Cruise Ship Reborn" and it was aired in sometime last summer.

The clock repair was actually quite a significant plot line as it came it down to the wire. If it didn't work by the deadline, they were going to offload it.

we were in an oceanview cabin on the Sovereign back in October, and we did have a safe (albeit a mini) in the room. She's a great 'little' ship, and the refurbishment has done her proud :)

We were a little disappointed with johnny o. as well; he seems to lack enthousiasm; during the newlyweds game it seemed as if he was just reading off a script, though the couples gave great material for him to ad-lib ("strangest place where you made whoopie" was "chained to the bed, blindfolded" :D , a better CD could have run miles with that ;) )

I don´t even want to imagine what this special service would look like;) :D :p :D

I think it would look like 56 year old fantastic fingers :)

Thanks for the update, I'll update the Current Captains list. Would you know who the reliever will be? I'm booked on a B2B end of April/beginning of May

Hi Carol, Is the clock keeping the correct time now?

I saw that show about the Sovereign Dry Dock, and the story of the famous clock. But, after it was back to sea, there was a thread about the clock. Someone reported that it was running, doing all it's little movements, but was not keeping the correct time.

I'm thrilled if it is now keeping the correct time,as it's very unique, and fun to watch.

For those of you who don't know, I just got off this ship on January 3. The clock was NOT working during that week. That's why I mentioned it.

Johnny O leaves the ship on Friday, when I do. Chris Armas, a generally VERY well-liked CD, comes aboard.

The only balconies are on DECK TEN. Anything on Deck 9 just has a window.

Perhaps other "oceanview" cabins have a fridge or safe; mine doesn't. I'm on Deck 4 - a very handy location, right near the Purser's Desk, and this internet cafe. I have a reasonably sized window, NOT just a porthole.

Thanks, wolfcathorse, I enjoyed that chuckle!

We went to Atlantis this afternoon and "did" the dig/aquarium tour ourselves. It's $29 per person. The grounds really are magnificent. The aquarium is INCREDIBLE. I am from a "big city" and I know what a good and cool aquarium should look like, and this is a GOOD one. We saw the most AMAZING rays and eels. These rays look like they have been imprinted by a fabric designer. In parts of the dig, you walk UNDER a part of the aquarium. It's on both sides of you, AND over you, and the fish and rays and sharks swim RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD.

There is this one MONSTER ray; I can't even guess how big it was.........maybe four feet across? Maybe more. It went right over our heads. Freaky. Cool jelly fish, gross looking moray eels, crabs, lobsters, "nemo" fish (clownfish), anemone, LOTS of sharks, and some SERIOUSLY UGLY fish. :D

I have won small amounts of money at the slots each night. That's because I only play for a very little bit, and quit when I hit something. (someone else likes to play BJ! <shut up, Wog!> ;)) I came out ahead at the casino at Atlantis, too. Boy, is that place huge and gorgeous. We saw BJ tables with a $10 minimum, then it went up and up and up and up.......saw a $500 table. And there was someone playing there!

Life is good. Cruising as an adult, with adult company, without the kids.....priceless.

See you again, maybe tomorrow.........Day At Sea.

Oh, I almost forgot. They had Monday night off, so they finally played last night, Tuesday. He sang to me. :D (Neil Sedaka's Oh, Carol)

We took some formal pictures, but they haven't been put up yet. I'm finding the hours of the Photo Gallery very odd and unhelpful.

This IS a beautiful ship, with a truly amazing crew. EVERYONE is freakishly friendly. :) Got a room service snack a little while ago, and it came in 20 minutes, and the waiter couldn't have been nicer. I put out the empty tray in the hall, walked into the Centrum, remembered the coupon for these internet minutes, and by the time I walked the 100 or so yards back to my cabin, the tray was gone.

I am so enjoying your updates! Husband and I are both diamond members and are going on the Sovereign in June for a short family cruise. This will be a change for us... since we have been used to sailing on Radiance and Voyager class ships on 7-14 day itineraries. I am glad to hear so many nice comments and we're completely looking forward to sharing our cruise addiction with about 25 of our family members! Can't wait to seeing your pics. Most of the pics I have been able to find on-line are mostly pre-re-furb. Keep the info coming!

Thanks for your update. It makes me even more excited about my cruise on the Sovereign in 3 weeks. Who knows, you may be back then or still on?! Sorry to hear about the sticky shower curtains. Don't remember shower curtains from other cruises. But then as I get older, I don't always remember what I did yesterday. Have fun!

The attendents taking money leave at 5pm and you can walk in for free. I read that on CC and then checked it out. Sure enough they just disappeared around 5pm. We were watching from afar then walked in, some others did too.

Carol...........Atlantis is great, especially the aquarium. A few years ago, while docked in Nassau,we met a couple that were staying at the hotel. They invited us to see the hotel and I was amazed at how well the aquarium is layed out.

I have been ORDERED not to mention SOMEONE on this site any more, so my lips are sealed...........(my fingers are tied???) But SOMEONE just won a lot of money at BJ. This day at sea is very nice and relaxed. The weather isn't warm - well, maybe, barely warm, but there's a VERY strong breeze, and people who are bravely sitting by the pool are pretty bundled up.

The Diamond/Platinum reception was very nice, again, and we sat and chatted with some new friends (Hi, ziggydaddy!) for ages. Then we went back to my (our?;)) cabin and SOMEONE brought up his keyboard and we had an impromptu jam session. People walking by stopped in and made requests, and he (oops, SOMEONE) gave a mini-concert. A very nice afternoon.

The act is doing VERY well this cruise. We're saving up for NYC!!!!!

Thanks again, Rick, for everything. :D :D :D

Ya know, as a mother, I never worried about what the kids were doing as long as I could hear them. But I knew they were up to hanky panky when I COULDN'T hear them. So now, that Carol is going to be silent about SOMEONE....

Glad you are having a GREAT cruise. Sovereign is a special ship for me-my first 2 cruises were aboard her years ago when she was the queen of the seas, glad to hear she is in good shape. I suspect Sovereign is a somewhat special ship for you as well :D. You know, years ago on Sovereign you could hear piano music through the Centrum, all the public areas and even the not so public areas...wonder how they did that :D.

Hey Carol, DH and I will be on Sovereign for the 4-28 sailing in cabin 4081. I've never been in an interior cabin before, could you go stand outside the door and let me know if its a really noisy location? I mean noise from the Centrum, Purser's Square, etc, not noise from the cabin! Then we stay on 5-1 in JS 1540, I was wondring about getting 1548 instead. Can you stand by 1548 and tell me if its a noisy location? Thanks! You gotta have something to do on that ship besides...well you know.

Carol,I am really enjoying your reports. I am new to the board but love it. I have gotten so many great ideas. I was worried about the Sovereign because we have previously sailed on the new megaships. I kow I am going to love this cruise-just hoping for good weather. My DH & I will be on Feb 13 & anxious to hear the unmentionable person's show. Where do they play again?

I will be glad to pass on any messages to "no one" when I am there.. Ginny

Sorry, I don't follow Celebrity. The 2 times I tried to find out I was pretty much shut out. Not rudely, mind you, just those Celebrity cruisers were acting like...celebrities. Even Capt Bangs' wife told me to "go ask that woman that writes Under the Captains Table" lmao Anyway I'll be asea before you, aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh, the sweet smell of.....ocean, sun block, and Jack Daniels.
