I apologize upfront....I have looked but for some reason can't find the answer.  If I choose the "free open bar"...when I book my 1st Norwegian cruise...what does this include and what are the limits...Thanks again

You will pay all tips/gratuity up front. The drinks are up to 15.00. It does not include water bottles or specialty coffee. You can drink as much as you want.

And if the drinks is over $15  you pay the difference plus a 20% gratuity( very rare unless you like high end liquors ) so say a drink is $18 you pay $3 plus 6o cents Gratuity for a total of $3,60 .

OK...so if I want to order a "fancy cocktail"...or a bailey's shot...it's covered if it's under $15.00...someone tried to tell me it only included drinks such as ...whiskey and coke, rum and coke...nothing fancy??? No liquors....???

There are certain "top shelf" liquors that are not included. There is a package you can upgrade to (Premium Plus) that will include them. Check out the differences HERE

 

The Premium Beverage Package does not include room service, package sales, ship specific promotions or beer buckets, designated Super Premium brands (subject to change), bottled wine, mini bar purchases, bottled water, fresh squeezed juices, select Lavazza coffee beverages, energy drinks, vending machines, wine stations or spirits, cocktails, draft or bottled beer and glasses of wine over $15 USD. Two (2) beverages per person per transaction.

You can have shots of whatever you like.

On our recent JOY trip, we noticed a group of people doing tequila, fireball, bailey's, rum shots..all covered with their drink package.

 

I did notice paying TAX on drinks while in ports in the USA. So wait to start your drinking when the ship sets sail in international water's..lol..

 

There was a 15 minute passage we had in Alaska that took us through US waters and i ended up being taxed on the 2 cocktails the wife and I had ordered.

Correct. I have a Baileys every night after dinner. They do have a new premium upgrade but I have not had a problem with drink orders. 

Dont forget you have already paid your tips so no need to tip..unless you want too!

I drank nothing but Baileys on the Bliss in march. Each time I ordered one, they asked me if I wanted a double. Don't worry lmb, they will take care of you.

OP as you can see from the pictures of the drink menu above a vast majority of the drinks and liquors are under the $15 threshold. 

When you select the drink package as a Free at Sea perk, drink gratuities are added and included in the final price of your reservation. So no further bar tipping is required. 

But let me guess, that “someone” is trying to convince you to go with their favorite line.

Hmmm....so our drinks package as we sail the Hawaiian Islands will have tax added until we hit the open seas?

Regardless of the tax, I'm starting to wonder if we might be better off without the package and ordering our beverages individually. I would probably have 3-4 wines a day, maybe a beer at lunch and a Bailey's after dinner. Are "virgins" included- I enjoy a Virgin Mary at Breakfast? DH drinks less than I do, but enjoys the "drink of the day" (if NCL has this as a special) and maybe a wine or two.

We are 4 of us sailing in a Family Penthouse and the drinks package as an included perk is just for 2. Please tell me that the other 2 non-drinkers are NOT obligated to purchase the drinks package. From reading the link posted above it seems all in a cabin MUST have that perk!

No virgins. Anything beyond the standard coffee and fake-juice you get on the buffet (including sodas and bottle water) are for fee. 

 

You get the package for passenger 1 and 2 only. No one else MUST purchase the package.
