Bsmeme Posted June 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2019 (edited) I’ll be on Harmony of the Seas. Does anyone know if your On Board Credit can be used towards the automatic service gratuities they add daily to your sea pass? stevea36 Posted June 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2019 Yes. OBC is just a credit towards your seapass account so it can be used for just about anything. (except booking a future cruise).
blackshirt Posted June 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2019 As noted, it is just a credit toward your onboard account. You don’t actually specify what charges the credit is for but you can think of it as covering whatever charges you want.

smrtypnts Posted June 25, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2019 can you use it to "buy" chips in the casino so i can play black jack?
cb at sea Posted June 25, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 25, 2019 It is a "Credit" on your account. I don't think they allow you to "buy chips" with it, but their policy may have changed lately. Doesn't hurt to try!

You can get a cash advance against your onboard account from the casino cashier. Don't mention OBC. You cannot choose which expenses are offset by OBC, it's all done in bulk at the end of the cruise. Also, if your onboard account is secured by a credit card, they can charge you 5% for the cash advance. However, if you chose a cash type account instead of a credit card type, they will waive the 5% fee. You have to pay off the cash type account on the last day, using either cash, credit card, or debit card.
Mary Louise Posted June 25, 2019 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2019 If you do cash type account, and you have refundable OBC left will they give you cash back?

Mary Louise Posted June 25, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 25, 2019 I have never done a cash account. My next cruise I am going to have a substantial amount of refundable and non refundable OBC. So if I do a cash account (how is that done?) and any non refundable OBC I can go and get casino chips I will not be charged a 5% fee. I then can go and cash in my chips without any additional fees. Would that be accurate? When do they give me the cash for any refundable OBC? Thanks again ML

You can ask Guest Services for a cash refund on the last day of the cruise.
Mary Louise Posted June 25, 2019 #15 Share Posted June 25, 2019 Perfect. To confirm, if I do the cash option, I can go to the Casino cash out all of my OBC and not pay any 5% fee. At the end of the cruise I can give a credit card or pay with cash for any of my expenses. If paying by credit card, I would not incur any transaction fees for the purchasing of chips at the beginning of the cruise. I would like to get of all of my OBC up front and then put my expenses on my RC credit card for points. I know that I will not be using all of my OBC, so this would be a great option if I am allowed to do this. ML

Again, just ask for a cash advance at the casino, don't ask to cash out your OBC.
Mary Louise Posted June 25, 2019 #17 Share Posted June 25, 2019 Thank you Will do and ask for cash advance at the casino. When I went to the RCCL FAQs about cash option it said the ship would provide more details when I check in. Do you know what those details are? ML I don't know what they intend to say when you check-in. However, one thing might be the limit on a cash account. They typically have a $500 limit per 7-night cruise (amount you have spent in excess of any credit you have) on a cash account before they ask you to pay it down. Mary Louise Posted June 25, 2019 #19 Share Posted June 25, 2019 Thank you that makes sense. Do you know if it is $500 per cabin or per passenger?
