Avoiding Corkage Fee

We are going to be cruising on the Star end of August.  Before that we will be traveling through Italy, and I'm sure, acquiring bottles of wine to eventually take back to the States.  We have the beverage package and therefore have no need for those wines to be opened while we are on the boat.  Is it possible to 'declare' those wines upon embarkation and have them hold them until departure to ensure we don't open them and thereby avoiding the corkage fees.?

You should have no problem having them hold bottles you intend to take home.  They return them to you before final debarkation.  We did exactly the same thing in Australia and New Zealand last year with no issues (or corkage fees) whatsoever.  They will take them from you when you re-board from your day ashore and mark them as yours (name and cabin number) before they store them.

Never had a problem getting wine held for us.

 

But if you are not travelling direct but doing B2B cruises to get from Rome to the USA you will probably have them returned to you at the end of the first cruise.

That should not be a problem, treat it just like buying alcohol at a port.

We purchased wine in Hawaii and had them hold it until we left the ship ... No problem.  Jan

If you don't plan on drinking it onboard - why not have it shipped to your house. We did that on our Canada cruise with Maple Syrup and Canadian Whisky.

We bought wine at a port stop in Greece and looked for someone to give it to when we boarded. When nobody could be found we just took it to our cabin.
