Ineke Posted August 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2019 We are looking at a longer cruise than we have done in the past. We have 3 star Mariner status right now, but only need 11 more days before we reach 4 star. Would this kick in while we are on the cruise?

The rule is that the change in Mariner status takes place on the next cruise after the number of days has been met. However, some people have been successful in having the upgraded status applied if 1 - the cruise is sold in segments 2 - the number of days needed is covered by actual days, not spending credits 3 - the staff at Guest Relations agrees. There is no guarantee that this will happen, but if it does it will be at the beginning of the next segment not on the day that the requirement is met.

CruiserBruce Posted August 14, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2019 Grand Voyages allow for change of status while on board, if based on sailing dates (not on spending).

That is not a Grand Voyage, so your status change shouldn't occur until after you get home.

Sorry but CruiserBruce is right! we were told also that it was only Grand Voyages that they would bump you up👍 Denise😊
Ineke Posted August 15, 2019 Author #8 Share Posted August 15, 2019 Thanks everyone for your help. Guess we should have done an 10 or 11 day cruise this summer, but oh well...too bad about no free laundry. Hope there’s a guest laundry on the Amsterdam. Kynana Posted August 18, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 18, 2019 A few years ago we were on a cruise that included two segments, either the Voyage of the Vikings or the round trip Med cruise out of Fort Lauderdale (which sadly has been discontinued). We asked and after the first segment we were upgraded to 4 star and free laundry!

You also get a credit for each $300 spent, totaled for all occupants of the cabin.

From the website linked: "When you cruise with Holland America Line, you’re automatically enrolled in our Mariner Society. As a member, you’ll earn Cruise Day credits for every day you cruise and for each purchase you make onboard. Earn bonus credits when you pay a published fare for a suite or penthouse and for each $300 in eligible onboard purchases." As far as I know, the $300 level also includes pre-booked items (excursions, indulgences, etc.) At least, it seemed to when I took my cruise since I earned extra days upon completion of my cruise and did pre-book excursions above the $300 total. I'm still a 1-star Mariner, too, but I'm working towards the 2-star level

If you pre-purchase OBC, once it is used on board it then counts towards the Mariner bonus credits.
