Lost power to the aft section of the ship for several hours. Many leaking pipes in the corridor near our cabin, so buckets out to catch the drips, fans blowing to try and dry it up. A funky smell all two weeks because of all the leaks. We still enjoyed our cruise, but would try to avoid the Grand in the future. I was seeing the same on the Star Princess last Feb. Maintenance in hall most days dealing with plumbing issues. I've been on all 3 Grand class ships, with the Star 3 times and there is a definite decline in service, food quality. Emoliash Posted September 17, 2019 #78 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Sun Princess, just not good at all. Food poor, pool area not great. Atrium was crowded all the time.
Kennact Posted September 17, 2019 #79 Share Posted September 17, 2019 I have never sailed on Princess before and am going on the Emerald next summer. Glad that I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet 🙂

jennybenny Posted September 17, 2019 #81 Share Posted September 17, 2019 I have never had a bad cruise, but I was weary regarding the Island with all the negative comments on Cruise Critic. I really enjoyed the Island for a Panama Canal cruise earlier this year. Loved the covered pool, Crooners, the Casino was fine, sure no IC but I never went hungry and would cruise her again depending on itinerary and options. We cruise on the Grand every year because it's our home port. Yes, she's a bit on the older side, but she's well maintained, and I love the staff!! I was also weary of the Crown Princess with all the Noro a few years ago. Sailed her without issue and enjoyed the cruise. I've been very happy with Princess cruises and I will tend to look at the positive before focusing on the negative. Don't get me wrong, things have gone wrong, and I've been upset but those are individual issues that I don't hold against them. I always find the itinerary I want, research the ships available (can I take the Ruby or Emerald with SHARE for the same itinerary, Royal for the adult pool and cabanas, Island for covered pool, Does the itinerary include a stop to my favorite island, things I like, etc.) Then decide on a vacation.

We thought she was very clean, in good repair and no funky smells. Haha. After reading negative comments earlier, we did look but found no negatives. My personal complaint was the very awkward and uncomfortable seating in the Vista Lounge.
lettienets Posted September 17, 2019 #83 Share Posted September 17, 2019 I recently got off the Caribbean Princess, my first Princess cruise. Things bothered me on that ship like the small showroom, crowds and line ups and loud music. Now I read the same criticism here about Island Princess, the next ship I booked! Is this a trend on Princess to jam in more people and take away public space? On Caribbean Princess people complained so much about having to wait an hour or more to get a seat in the theater, that the cruise line had to do some encore productions in the afternoon (not all shows) and the shows were simulcast in the Exploration bar (not the grand shows, must be copyright issue). So I am not impressed. I was always curious about Princess. I wonder why the cruises are more expensive if they don't have much added benefit. What is the added benefit for the price? And now I read the Island Princess has an inner gym, that is a first, no windows.
KeepCalmBearOn Posted September 18, 2019 #84 Share Posted September 18, 2019 Some people don't like the Island Princess because she was "butchered" in a redesign. Okay, maybe it didn't turn out as well as planned, but it is still far better than the entire Royal Class that was designed butchered. People should sue Princess to make them rename Deck 7 the No Promenade Deck under truth in advertising laws. That said.... least favorite cruise ship is like picking your least favorite cookie. It's still a cookie which beats vegetables any day of the week.
jondfk Posted September 18, 2019 #85 Share Posted September 18, 2019 First, I'll agree with so many others that I choose cruises by itinerary, calendar and start / end port(s) only as a final criteria would I apply ship preferences as a 'tie breaker'. Were that the case I'd probably avoid Emerald and Ruby for two reasons: a) We LOVE Crooners and while both do have this space, the layout is strange with many tables in the walkway which during busy times has people passing closely by you on one or both sides. We've had drinks spilled (repeatedly) and just don't find the space all that pleasant compared to other ships. b) Both have SHARE instead of Sabatini's, I'm no fan, to me SHARE is long on promise / short on execution, I'm aware there are fans out there - but I'm not one. Now, will I cruise either of these 'least favorite ships', you bet we cruised Ruby within the last 12 months when she had an itinerary we really wanted to experience and we're booked on Emerald for a '21 Panama FLL - SFO because she's the only one doing that run that winter. Did we hesitate even a moment to make these bookings no. Would we have booked Grand or Coral if we had a choice, you bet, but we wanted these sailings and these ships were doing them when we could manage the time.
