ksignorini Posted August 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2019 If I make a bid on an upgrade and win, when do I pay for it? Does it get added to my account to be paid any time before cruising?
SeaShark Posted August 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2019 You submit your credit card information when you make the bid. If they notify you that you won, you will have already been charged.

MikeBTN Posted August 23, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2019 Immediately upon winning. Many reports are that the card was charged minutes to hours before an email notification arrived.
esm54687 Posted August 23, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2019 and just to follow up...... it is 100% non-refundable.... win a bid, get a shitty location, card charged..... smile and enjoy your win. 😁
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted August 23, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2019 My recommendation is that you put an alert on your credit card to notify you immediately when a charge hits your card. Easy-peasy.

I booked a comped inside cabin thru the casino earlier this year, and then bid for an upgrade to a balcony. My bid was accepted but the amount charged was higher than my bid (an extra $31). After researching, I learned that the cost of my cruise insurance had increased since the total cost of the cruise now had reached the next threshold, triggering the higher insurance cost. This is in the T&Cs because the value of your cruise has increased. But like you pointed out, it's important to understand optional collateral charges associated with a winning bid. My credit was charged in a single transaction for the cost of the bid, plus $31 for the increased cost of the insurance, which I was not expecting. Not a big deal, but I had to research to understand what had happened. So your first sentence is not 100% accurate.

It is 100% accurate because the bid was charged exactly as you bid....... your optional insurance was what was charged in addition. The key word is "optional". The T&Cs clearly outline the additional charge if you had additional conditions on your cruise on top of the bid cost. NCL will not charge your credit card more than your submitted bid. You bid $25 then NCL will charge you $25 for the bid........ the $31 is NOT the bid cost. No insurance.... No $31 charge. Happy Cruising.

Happy Cruising. I never said it was the bid cost, but it was not an "option" to pay the additional $31. I'm not arguing that the additional insurance charge was not valid, but to say that NCL will only charge you the amount of your bid is not accurate. They will charge you the amount of your bid, plus any increase in the cost of your insurance, if applicable. I would guess 95% of bidders do not read the Terms and Conditions. I don't even recall seeing a link to them.
