How rough is Whittier to Vancouver in July?

Do you think midship and lower down is the best option for us?

Absolutely.  In the roughest of seas, the lowest passenger deck, midship, will provide the best "ride".

I sailed from Whittier to Vancouver on July 31st and the seas were calm.  The Gulf of Alaska that first day at sea was flat with some ripples.  As the other posters said, one can never be sure sailing on any body of water what the conditions might be like.

Between Whittier and Vancouver, the seas are roughest on alternate Tuesdays, and on Thursdays of the weeks that begin on an even number.

Not what I experienced. Roughest was cloudy Saturday nights. All other days were silky smooth. Was on deck 10 near stern, medium sized cruise ship.
