Califonria cruiser Posted September 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Wondering how rough/rocky the waves are usually between Whittier and Vancouver? My daughter tends to get seasick IF it is rough and after 8 cruises to the Caribbean only had an issue once. What is likely? Do you think midship and lower down is the best option for us? Rare Coral Posted September 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Expect anything. Out of a dozen or so cruises, I have had a few where it has been rough on the last day to Vancouver. Be prepared and hope for the best.
Heidi13 Posted September 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2019 In the summer months you have a higher chance of a smooth sailing, but having worked this coast for many years, we do get a few summer storms.

In the roughest of seas, the lowest passenger deck, midship, will provide the best "ride". I sailed from Whittier to Vancouver on July 31st and the seas were calm. The Gulf of Alaska that first day at sea was flat with some ripples. As the other posters said, one can never be sure sailing on any body of water what the conditions might be like. Northern Aurora Posted September 12, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2019 That itinerary will take you into the Gulf of Alaska. The Gulf can be calm or it can be rough, so be prepared just in case.
Donald Posted September 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Between Whittier and Vancouver, the seas are roughest on alternate Tuesdays, and on Thursdays of the weeks that begin on an even number.
Rare geoherb Posted September 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2019 I thought it was perfectly smooth on my southbound trip this summer, which took place June 26 to July 3. Someone I met, though, was complaining about the motion.

Not what I experienced. Roughest was cloudy Saturday nights. All other days were silky smooth. Was on deck 10 near stern, medium sized cruise ship.
