Caribbean Cruise - Daylight Savings Time...

Hi all, DH and I are taking our first cruise in March, and are counting the days (literally).  Was a bit confused about other posts that I read regarding “Ship Time” and “Daylight Savings Time”.

How does it work?  If we leave Miami on Daylight Savings Time at the end of March, and we end up in Punta Cana, for instance, that doesn’t observe Daylight Savings Time, do we have to keep switching our watches back and forth to observe the local time?  Or do we stay on Daylight Savings Time during the entire cruise?

Thanks as always for all of the great advice!👒

The hotel portion of the ship always operates on local time wherever they are, including mid-ocean.  (Can't speak for the bridge which may operate on GMT.)

Each time you cross into another time zone once underway, your cabin steward will leave a note on your bed at night (along with Currents and whatever else) informing you of the impending time change and recommending you set your clock/watch ahead or back one hour for the following day.  Easy peasy.

You can check the different times zone  for the date you are  travelling

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20200321T140000&p1=188&p2=3404

Either way  you will get  a notice  the night of any clock changes   also check the ship  as you are leaving &  make sure your watch is the same time

While this may be the case for Oceania it is not for all cruise lines. As noted read the Currents and follow accordingly.

Most of the eastern Caribbean is on Atlantic Standard Time, and does not observe DST.  So your FL DST would be the same as Atlantic Standard.  EM

Not sure I really understand.  We were trying to determine what time the sunsets would happen while on the cruise, and according to web, if island is on DST, then sunset at end of March would be 7:30ish, and if not, then at 6:30ish.  Just trying to figure out that in order to plan dinner reservations.

Less minutiae = less stress = better cruise. 😉 Just relax and enjoy your cruise.

Ahh....But the further east you go in the time zone, the earlier sunset will be.  Same with going south although not as dramatic in March as it would be in mid-summer.  EM
