Funplay vs obc

I think I have this straight but looking to more experienced Carnival sailers to verify.  "Funplay" credits are applied to your card and you can use them in the casino? Is there any restriction?  Regular "OBC" can be used anywhere on the ship as credit? shops, specialty dining, drinks, excursions? Is that right?  Thanks in advance.

It's been our experience that some of the older ships are not equipped for the fun play credits to your casino bank. In that case you would receive cash in hand from the casino. At that point it would be your choice as to how you want to spend the cash or even if you choose to spend it.

They used to do that with us, but our last few cruises the credits were uploaded.   I would much rather have the cash in hand!

What are Fun Play credits??

Karen

Instead of casino giving you cash in hand, they upload credits into your player's bank/card.  You then download them into a machine.  Don't know how it works (if at all) with table games.

Funplay credits can ONLY be used in the casino.  Sometimes I get the credits uploaded to my card and other times I've been handed the cash directly.  On Pride last September., they gave me $500 cash.    This past January I got $1000 in credits.  Both were different casino offers.  There's no restriction on what you play in the casino.

OBC is better since you can use it anywhere on board:  casino, tips, drinks etc.

My next casino offer is for next April (if we ever sail again) and that offer includes OBC, instead of funplay money.

Can't you load them on your player card and then cash out?  I believe I have done that...may have been a different promo, but last year my son had a medical emergency & him and I had to get off the ship.  My daughters stayed and they were able to get my credits off and get cash.

I have heard that many times in my time here, and many people reported they have had that success. BUT..... (always the big BUT right?) That was then.....this is now....consider the incredible amount of those $600 or $300 OBC offers they give you for a cancelled cruise and there have been MANY. And many people have learned of that trick. So if you try it, be careful. They may catch on soon, and immediately discontinue that 'loophole'.  YMMV.

I don't have big onboard credit for the cruise in Oct.  Ours is onboard credit, not funplay this time

I'm not sure I even KNOW what 'funplay' is. I'm only referring to OBC given to you by either Carnival or your TA. That's the only way I've ever gotten it. NOW.... if your are referring to some kind of casino offer....sorry, can't help you. I'm not a gambler, and certainly don't keep up with those crazy offers.

"Funplay" is credit to gamble with.  If you have $500 in funplay, you load it to your card.  You must use that amount in full to gamble before you can cash any of the original money out.  If you hit a jackpot of $1000 on the first $20 you play, you can cash that out and you will still have $480 in funplay to gamble with.

OBC can also be loaded to your casino card and you can cash that out at any time.

I only cruise on those "crazy casino offers."  LOL
