Renmar Posted April 2, 2021 #3526 Share Posted April 2, 2021 By the looks of it the whole artifact is outside hanging on a wall, unless the pigeon is part of the object. Also, because of the pigeon size this clock (I assume it is a clock) has to be at least 5' to 6' in size. No idea where it could be. Theo
Rare jpalbny Posted April 2, 2021 #3527 Share Posted April 2, 2021 You are correct. It's outside, and the pigeon photobomb is an added bonus.
Rare notamermaid Posted April 2, 2021 Author #3528 Share Posted April 2, 2021 Some weird interpretation of the Viking saga - or something from the Edda - about the origin of the earth? On a museum wall in Kiev? My best shot at this, err, unique piece... notamermaid
Rare jpalbny Posted April 2, 2021 #3529 Share Posted April 2, 2021 Yes, unique for sure. Chris is a master of finding really cool stuff to see. Not Kyiv. A city that I'd bet 90% of us have visited. But odds are you didn't see this because Chris wasn't your tour guide!

Rare Coral Posted April 2, 2021 #3535 Share Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) I found it: Paris, France - August 13, 2016: Le Defenseur du Temps (The Defender of Time) is a large mechanical work of art in the form of a clock created by the French artist Jacques Monestier Edited April 2, 2021 by Coral
Rare jpalbny Posted April 2, 2021 #3536 Share Posted April 2, 2021 Oui, c'est Paris! Now what is it? I never heard about it during French class, and when Chris added it to our list, I said something along the lines of what the heck is that? Sorry Coral. I thought it was you who had mentioned that earlier.

It's apparently been in a state of disrepair for about 15 years and hasn't moved (been animated) during that interval. It must have been so cool.to see when it was moving. We saw it in 2014 so no animation, and le défenseur was swordless.
Rare notamermaid Posted April 2, 2021 Author #3541 Share Posted April 2, 2021 I do not think I walked past it when I was in Paris (the long trip I did many years ago). We concentrated on mostly classic art and architecture, apart from the Centre Pompidou of course. This fits very well into the catalogue of Atlas Obscura, for sure! notamermaid
Canal archive Posted April 2, 2021 #3542 Share Posted April 2, 2021 Knew it wasn’t London. I love Dragons Tolkien, McCaffrey. This is amazing another excuse to go back to Paris, thank you jpalbny.
