I got this email today from RC with the subject line "We have an exciting update to share with you regarding your Future Cruise Credit!":

Did anyone else get this?  It's nice and all, except for the fact that my FCC already expires on 12/31/21 ...

You only have to use the certificate by that date.  That date has been on my list of certificates since August.  But no...I have  not received any "fresh updates" on that.  Pretty much standard form letter.  Did you just cancel a cruise recently?  Could be the reason you got that.

I just used several of mine to apply to 2022 cruises.

It depends.

If the FCC was issued as a result of a Global Suspension (Royal cancelled the cruise) then it must be applied by Dec31, 2021 and sail by April 30, 2022.

If the FCC was the result of someone cancelling under CWC then it must be applied and sailed by Dec 31, 2021

Our FCC was issued as a result of the NSO and cancelled by RCCL.  Alaska Cruise/Tour 8A scheduled for 29 May 2020. It stated one our FCC letter that it must be applied & sailed by Dec 31, 2021.

That was updated and your sail by date is now April 2022.  See Phase 2 column.

I received that same email today.  We do have one FCC that expires Dec 30, 2020 (already extended) so I assume that is the one that can now be used up until Dec 31, 2020.  I do need to call though to confirm as that one wasn't from CWC.  Our others already expire Dec 31.

I like what Carnival does, any amount remaining from an applied FCC gets applied to your reservation as OBC.

It would be nice to have the "choice"....I certainly don't want $$'s as OBC...Then what would happen if you don't use it as OBC?

A visit to the casino will get your OBC converted to cash.  Usually the residual amounts of OBC are relatively small so using it up through gratuities or other on board purchases wouldn’t be an issue but having a choice would be good.

Some of my family group will have about $800 and we'll have about $2500 as it looks....unless I opt to apply mine to a cruise before the one where's it's applied now...which I may do as I understand I can.

Yes...I'm always about having a "choice".

I had eight FCC vouchers for deposits of cruises that were cancelled by RCI.  I requested cash back to CC...but RCI's bean counters swore that it was me that cancelled, (not true, but arguing the fact did no good).

Received the FCC deposit vouchers by email stating the CWC program, with stated expiration date of 12/31/21.  Gave up and decided to use them where I could.  Asked the rep on the phone if I could use them for cruises in 2022...and was told "of course you can".

Applied two of them to end of 2021 cruises, but the other six were applied to my booked 2022 cruises, which reduced the balance on each one.  No problem doing so, have the confirmations.

I would guess that because the reps saw that they were deposit amounts only that they incorrectly assumed they were because you cancelled.

Still many inconsistencies happening.

Agree there.  RCI:  Really Consistently Inconsistent.  😉

The rep on the phone took all the information, found the certificate numbers, verified by me, then sent them in explaining I would see it in 24-48 hours.  It only took a few hours.  The certificates had to be verified by the bean counters, and then sent through.  It was not  a fluke, as it all went through the proper channels one by one.

I was just happy to be able to use them for the the 2022 cruises...I was running out of cruises and time to use the vouchers for 2021.

Ken,

Have you heard of anyone being able to switch FCC's?

You had warned me about this...so if we used a small FCC ($500), can we take that $500 back and use our $3,500 FCC instead?  Thanks.

Nope, once it is applied they do not want to remove it.  I did have it done once but had to push pretty hard to get it done.

Just to clarify...Once I apply an FCC to a booking I can't move it to another one sailing earlier instead?

Also another situation....I did a price change and the FCC dropped off and it had to be reinstated by another department..it seems like that might be an option to apply it elsewhere...yes?

As I said, once applied they will not normally move it to another sailing.  Having it drop off temporarily while they did a price adjustment is different.   As I also said I was able to do it once but I had to go through a couple levels of supervisors in order to do it.

  • Thanks 1
