When is a suite not a suite?

It's really no different than some other cruise lines, airlines, hotels, etc.  It's marketing.  Give something a name that's halfway between ordinary and great and many people will pay more.  It makes some people feel more than ordinary, and some less than great.  Caveat emptor.

The first time we went to Vegas, around 2003 or 2004 I think, we stayed off-strip at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. They advertise every room is a suite. Basically, they are just one giant 550+ sq ft room with 2 couches, 2 or 3 chairs and a few coffee tables. Nothing to separate the "bedroom" portion from the rest of the room. It did have a small refrigerator but no coffee maker.

But I knew all of that when I booked it. Dirt cheap rates since it was off-strip & gorgeous views of the Strip from the floor to ceiling windows. Great roof top bar on the 48th floor. Sadly, the last time we were in Vegas in 2017, we visited the casino and everything seemed to be run down.

The knocking on the door, the general attitude of the host towards JK guests. It’s totally unnecessary.

You have a very good point there. Regardless of the fact that your access to CK was contingent on capacity, once inside, you should be treated with the same respect as any other guest from a "real" suite.

That's the beauty of a cruse ship. You should be getting the same level of service from the crew no matter the category of your stateroom.

I may have missed it but what about the general attitude of the host was wrong? Were they just dismissive of your concerns?  I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to understand. I've often toyed around with the idea of booking a JS instead of the usual balcony cabin.

Trust me I get it,you get what you pay for. The whole CK experience leaves a bad taste,so to speak. The knocking on the door, the general attitude of the host towards JK guests. It’s totally unnecessary. After being in a sky suite on Celebrity, it opened my eyes to what a suite experience is like.

You don't like knocking 🤔 try this. Beat on the door, make you presence know. Own it.😉

I have stayed in both JS and full suites GS, OS and CLS and had no problem getting dining reservations in Coastal Kitchen in any of those cabins. It is a bit annoying to have to knock on the door when you’re in a JS,  but sometimes even in the higher suites the keys don’t work to open the door.  I’ve never felt that I was treated any differently by the staff once inside no matter the cabin. Maybe I just didn’t notice 🤷‍♀️

We used to love the Rio! We would take the shuttle over from Harrah's on the Strip. We actually rode the floats on the Masquerade Show in the Sky, and tossed beads. And the views from the Voodoo Lounge of the strip are fabulous. We never stayed there, but it was such a fun casino! But it had lost a lot of its former fun last time we were there.

That is so cool that you got to ride the floats! I don't think I know customers could do that. I was one of the people on the floor trying to catch the beads. LOL.

I think they stopped the Masquerade show years ago & the Carnival World buffet - which was fabulous the first time we went - was really lacking. The whole place just felt so sorry and dingy.

Well I'm just loving my spacious Odyssey Jr Suite (J3) with two baths, both with a sink and a toilet and one with the tub/shower combo and plenty of storage!

The two baths is a big plus for us.

I knew in advance what perks came with this "suite".

We also loved our Jr. Suite on the Odyssey! Those two bathrooms were nice, especially liked having a bathtub and the roomy separate shower with a sit down bench in it, in the bigger bathroom. The cool electronic day, movie, night shades and the Lazarro coffee maker were pretty nice also. We were able to get reservations in Coastal Kitchen a couple nights, no problem. Should have reserved every night! The service and food were amazing.
