Sorry, I know a lot of people are passionate about their CD, but does it really matter much anymore?  A long time ago, the CD was integral to the trip and there was a lot of interaction.  On the larger ships of today, we’ve gone through many without even seeing the CD.  I know they play a role behind the scenes but we just don’t interact with them the way we once did.  I’d be interested in whether anyone tracks the Hotel Directors and compares that to the overall ship experience.

The best chance to see the CD is to go to the shows and participate in the events and activities they host.  I started cruising rather late so I haven't experienced what you posted about CDs being more interactive with guests. That must have been very special.

There is a misconception that the CD is involved in all aspects of the guests' experience.  I think those days are gone.  The reality is that they're only involved in the entertainment and activities. I just posted about this on FB after watching the show 9-1-1 where the episode was about a cruise.  The cruise director was portrayed as part Guest Services/Concierge, part Genie, and part surveillance.  He was even shown interacting with guests in the dining room like a Maitre D'.

A side issue...is it just me or did CC do something to change the highlight color on the boards?  In keeping the list, I frequently highlight copy and paste info from one place into another.  Lately the highlight color has changed from a light blue color to an almost impossible to see beigeish/yellowish  one.  The only place I have run into the problem is here on the boards and not on any other places on my PC.  Wondering if anyone else has noticed this and even better, how to change it back!  Thanx.

Very special? I think most CDs are annoying. I have no need to interact with them. Mike S is the exception. He is just a great, which makes him rare, CD.

The comment I was replying to was talking about cruising in the (distant) past.  I haven't experienced that but with what they described the CDs were doing back then, I imagined it to be special.
