Getaway "semi-live" limited NY-Florida (PC)-GSC-Nassau 3.27.2022

Starting this for the week, it's been more than 2 years, our last cruise was December 2019 just before the pandemic wave exploded shortly thereafter - we opted to skip upgrading, having a balcony is nice and good enough for the week, as of yesterday or 1 day to embarkation, the "Upgrade Advantage" offer was still showing up, LOL.  Haven & Spa club/balconies and suites basically sold out, upgraded, etc.  Will post from time-to-time on interesting items to share, leave comments or questions - will read, post or best effort to answer.  

Traffic is good & smooth, going be there before 10.

Haven't been boarding, followed by accessible guests next to us. We are next - this is early. Onboard at 10:50 and reported to our Muster Station & scanned. Savor MDR opens at noon, buffet is now open. 

 

Fresh teams of crew coming onboard today, rotation & vacation or home leaves for others.

Cabins not ready yet. Let's eat first at O'Sheehan's. Getting filled up with diners. Great & friendly services from the crew.

 

Fellow CC on roll call reported the check-in line is backed up, probably because they are carefully checking vaccine records & test reports. Used our PCR results digitally from NYC's PRL - RRT just fine, don't worry if it's not from CVS or eMed.

Staterooms ready by 12:30 and we are on Dec 11 AFT, right by the elevators as chosen. Room Steward just knocked a few minutes ago, both of our checked bags delivered while he said hello & introduced himself. Unpacking & setting up my desk area while Mrs M take a power nap after lunch. 

 

It's nice to be back, very cheerful crew & staff everywhere.  Yummy strawberries just found us. 

 

Walked by the casino area, ATM machine that has extra, enhanced functions, US currencies.

Going to sort out the App, WiFi upgrades, etc. - using T-Mobile & VZW 4G signals for now. Ship’s WiFi 4 on 5 GHz band still slow but usable for general browsing. 
 

Sole TV is familiar, an easy direct hookup with a longer HDMI cable to laptop. But, will Google CS w TV or Roku work at all, will find out later. 

 

 

Switch posting from my Android Pixel to iPhone SE 2020, kickoff the other device - only 1 log-in at a time.

The good old Brooklyn Army Terminal, next to the medical center where I once worked ... years ago. This is where the proposed old freight train line is at, plans for the new commuter train/subway line thru central Brooklyn & Queens.

Almost 2 hours after leaving Pier 88, still managed to pull 4G signal onboard - but is fading now (at 5 pm). Harbor pilot onboard just left, we're going slow at 10 knots.

 

Time to get ready for early dinner, next.

Tonight, Taste MDR is closed.  Oops - what about our reservation there.

Not to worry, Savor is open & heavily well-staffed. Here's the Menu - we didn't see the need to make reservations for dinner on Day 1 - walked over at 6:20 pm and were seated in 3 minutes flat.  

 

Starbucks in the lobby wasn't busy either.

Food pictures from the MDR, portion sized just right for us and it was good, loved our entrees of Salmon & Beef.

 

Easier to not gain extra pounds or weight and feel guilty about it.

Currently on ship's unlimited basic WiFi plan for full 7 nights, applied the 250 minutes credit valued at $125 so net charge is $85, deducting from non-refundable OBC.  Same price now if we wait until Day 2.  

 

Under the old Latitude Platinum Plus / Sapphire benefits, 60 free minutes get a $45 trade-in credit.
