Upsells offers on back to back guarantees

I am thinking of booking a couple of back to back 7 day cruises on the Nieuw Amsterdam.  Since it is a casino offer, I will have to book guarantee cabins on both cruises.  I was wondering if I will still get upsell offers like I often do other times when I book Signature Suites, or does the back to back situation block this?  I am assuming the two cruises will have different booking numbers.

Anyone have experience with this?

One upsell at a time is what we have seen, pre-Covid.

I'd like to know if upsells are being done much now. If ships aren't sailing full, could there be more availablilty for upsells.

We got one in early April, when ship was only about half full.  Went from Verandah to Neptune on Koningsdam.

We recently did a B2B on the Zaandam with the casino offers.  When we booked it they were guaranteed bookings but the PCC linked them.  After our cabin assignment I watched cabin availability.  About a week before the first sailing I called the upsell department, against my PCC’s advice.  I was eligible for an upsell on both cruises and went from Vista to Neptune for both bookings.  A friend on the same itinerary never received any offers.

In the past when I’ve done b2b I’ve had one booking number.  I don’t recall getting many upsells on those but I might have just forgotten.  On the koningsdam in both November and in March I got an upsell for a balcony to a vista suite on one of the cruises but not both.  I had 2 booking numbers and I took it on the November cruise but not March.  I called to see how much it was for a Neptune suite but it was very high even though the ship was at approximately 40 percent.

Did you have the same booking number or different?   Any pros or cons to doing it one way or the other?  With two different numbers and being 5 Star I figure it would be better to be different numbers, but then again the same number might get us assigned to the same cabin, which would be nice.

Any thoughts?

We usually book b2b or b2b2b cruises with a large online TA.  Usually book a guarantee at the lowest category outside or veranda and have never got an upsell offer, but usually are given a middle or upper category cabin in the same type.  We have a b2b2b booked for this Spring and since we haven't cruised for two years, can afford to pay for an upgrade.  I wonder if I should ask my TA to request it or should I just call the upgrade number at HAL.  I don't mind doing it, but get the impression once you book with a TA,  HAL doesn't want to deal directly with you.  I assume this would be done maybe a month before embarkation.

We had two booking numbers.  The PCC linked the two bookings hoping that they would give us the same cabin on each booking.  They did.  It was the first time I called looking for an upsell.  Only one cabin remained on both legs of the cruise.  I may have gotten lucky with my request I don’t know for sure.  The new PCC told me to wait, he has since quit.  I think if you know the cabin for both booking numbers that will help.

Mine are both guarantees.

It becomes quite difficult when you are doing a B2B with 2 reservations numbers to get offered an upsell. When offers become available they normally go by week/sailing date, then when you are linked with you B2B reservation your first reservation numbers does not come up for a match to solicit for Up Sell offer. The same is true if you are link with other people for dining you are automatically not in the first round for upsell offers. The next problems is you could call in to the Revenue department because you are linked they may try to tell you they cannot do it or they have to attempt to find the same stateroom they can upsell you to available for both segments it just depends on who you talk to. Because you do have two different reservation numbers you actually do not need to keep the same stateroom each segment but HAL will try to say you need to. It just depends on if you want to have the same stateroom. But the main take away here is that you have to be pro active and contact them because having a B2B that I am sure was linked as such you will NOT be contacted for an Upsell offer.
