Rental Car Return near Manhattan Cruise Terminal

We will embark on a Sunday from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.  We will have had a rental car for a few days.  Is it practical to return it to a Manhattan location, such as Dollar at 263 W 52nd St or Avis at 153 W. 54th St and use cab or Lyft to the cruise port?  We could take the car back to EWR and get transportation from there but it seems real expensive.

You might have to pay a bit more for a drop off different from your pick up point (presumably EWR) but it would be a lot easier (and probably cheaper over all) to drop off in Manhattan and taxi to the terminal.

Why will you have a rental car for a few days? Cars are not assets if you are exploring NYC.

If you were to drop the car at EWR you could take NJ Transit to New York Penn Station, which isn't very expensive nor far from the cruise terminal, and you can take Uber/Lyft or taxi from there.

You could even drop one person off at the port with the bags and the driver could walk from the rental depot

We will be visiting family in the Hudson Valley, probably won’t get to the City
