Rare Guardsy Posted September 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Do any past cruisers on this ship know if there is access to the bow of the ship? It appears there may be doors at the very forward section of the Gershwin deck. In the past we have enjoyed access to a viewing deck under the bridge of some of the Princess ships. Used them early in the morning for having coffee while entering ports. Some reviews note that HAL has some ships where access is allowed to the bow. Rare VMax1700 Posted September 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2022 It really depends on the Captain and the ports. It is a special arrangement and not 'open all hours!' The CD will announce if the bow is open for viewing.
Rare FlaMariner Posted September 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Cruised a few times on the Nieuw Statendam....TA's and Caribbean itineraries. She's a great ship! Never has the bow been available for passenger access....but I think the bow access might be based on the itinerary. When on the Zuiderdam on a Panama Canal cruise, I recall eating my Panama Bun and drinking coffee while on the bow as we went entered the canal. CruiserBruce Posted September 29, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2022 There will be bow access on " scenic cruising " locations. There was on our sailing through Price Christian Sund in Greenland this July.
syesmar Posted September 30, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2022 I recall having access in 2019 when we were in Norway.

You can get a great view from the crow's nest and don't have to worry about the weather.
Rare Crew News Posted September 30, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 30, 2022 The bow of the Zuiderdam was open in Glacier Bay Alaska this summer from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. As noted in previous posts, the itinerary determines when the bow will be open.
Brentwood Bay Posted September 30, 2022 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2022 We were on the Nieuw Statendam during the Hurricane Earl event (which our Captain successfully dodged). Our Cabin 5001 was adjacent to the bow access door. That door was not locked but identified as "Crew Only". We did see several crew members working or discretely having coffee on the bow deck but never passengers. When the ship was underway the bow deck would have been too windy for pleasant viewing. Our adjacent veranda was essentially unusable when underway.
Rare ski ww Posted September 30, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2022 We're cruising on the NS next July, hopefully they'll open the bow when we do the scenic cruising into the fjords
Wendy-Europe Posted October 6, 2022 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2022 It is a crew area and was open for guests during our cruise for a special event "scenic cruising" (maybe 2 hours).
