St. Martin excursions and safety

In researching different excursion possibilities for St. Martin I found some not so old articles an a RC warning about unrest on the French side, which is the side we are leaning towards for our excursion. Is this still an issue there currently? Has anyone been there recently?

Unrests on the French side are not uncommon and crop up from time to time.  If there is are any protests going on you won’t be taken to that side of the island.

we have visited St Martin many times and never had a problem.  We usually book ours tours with Bernard’s Tours because he has been in business over 15yrs and knows the island well….

Have been to the French side three times in last year.  Only "unrest" we have seen is that French side hasn't had much help with hurricane cleanup that was promised well over a year ago.  Dutch side is in pretty good shape.  Both sides are great tourist destinations and very safe for any tour.

I've never felt things were dangerous in St. Maartin, and we have been through "unrest" several times.  I would suggest leave extra time for getting back to the ship.  We were delayed once when the protests closed off some traffic and we needed to take a longer alternate route back.

We also have used Bernard's Tours...they usually take the "off the beaten path places." On one tour, we were taken to an off the road place where we could feed the iguanas...lots of fun!
