smheese Posted November 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2022 In researching different excursion possibilities for St. Martin I found some not so old articles an a RC warning about unrest on the French side, which is the side we are leaning towards for our excursion. Is this still an issue there currently? Has anyone been there recently?

If there is are any protests going on you won’t be taken to that side of the island. we have visited St Martin many times and never had a problem. We usually book ours tours with Bernard’s Tours because he has been in business over 15yrs and knows the island well….
smokeybandit Posted November 10, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Unrest there is more nuisance unrest than actual "fear for your safety" unrest 2
BigBrust Posted November 10, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2022 The best excursion we have ever done was the Americas Cup Yacht Race. Not sure if they still do it, but I would highly recommend it!!
LeeW Posted November 10, 2022 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Have been to the French side three times in last year. Only "unrest" we have seen is that French side hasn't had much help with hurricane cleanup that was promised well over a year ago. Dutch side is in pretty good shape. Both sides are great tourist destinations and very safe for any tour.
Cigar King Posted November 10, 2022 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2022 I've never felt things were dangerous in St. Maartin, and we have been through "unrest" several times. I would suggest leave extra time for getting back to the ship. We were delayed once when the protests closed off some traffic and we needed to take a longer alternate route back. CruiserLucas Posted November 10, 2022 #7 Share Posted November 10, 2022 We were there in March. While the French side seemed more impoverished, I wouldn't say it felt any more or less safe than many other Caribbean islands.

We also have used Bernard's Tours...they usually take the "off the beaten path places." On one tour, we were taken to an off the road place where we could feed the iguanas...lots of fun!
BND Posted November 10, 2022 #9 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Never felt unsafe. We're currently in St Maarten on Jewel. Been here many times. Protests aren't violent but can block roads and disrupt traffic.
