And if you venture down toward the ocean from the forts. head up the small hill from the cemetery to La Gratis Yaz. Great food and drink with a view of the ocean. Funny. I always get a tripleta sandwich from the mom and pop food cart next door. I haven't been there in a few years so I don't know if it is still there since the hurricanes .

I've got my bag packed and my walking shoes on. I've got hopefully all the supplies I need to survive on dry land for the next several hours. I'm going to bring my real Verizon phone, but I'll probably just take in the sights for awhile before I continue. I've gotta try to get some real vacation time for myself in... Pictures incoming later. By the way, I'm just going to be winging it for the most part without my map or anything. I'll navigate like the ancient Indians did, by the sun... But, for real, you can pretty much see the ship from several places in town... OSJ is a great place to spend a day. We would always choose a beach but with no great beach option here wandering the old city eating and drinking is great for us. We missed out on the Bacardi tour due to Covid. We will hit that up next time we are there. Enjoy the day. SPF 30 is your friend.
Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1203 Share Posted December 7, 2022 I'm back on the ship now from my little foray into Old San Juan... I've probably walked about ten miles or so, but I survived. It was sunny and hot out there, and then the rain came. Afterwards, it was steamy hot, but I'm used to that back home. I basically just wandered the streets with no place in particular in mind. The city reminds me of what an old European city probably looks like, not that I've ever been to Europe... I caught a couple of decent pictures of the ship before heading deeper into the unknown...

I went down to Guest Services and cleared up the problem with my account. They said that I didn't have a payment method on file, but I definitely remember doing that during the online check in. Anyhoo, I gave him my credit card, and I was on my way. The same thing happened to me with my account on my Glory bruise in November.. I loaded my card online, was happily cruising then got turned down ordering a drink. I had used up my OBC then had no backup card on file.
Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1207 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Next, I just wandered in no particular direction. Left, right, up, down... I love the old buildings here. People in America don't appreciate old World architecture, and they just bulldoze buildings like these down and build new ones.
Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1208 Share Posted December 7, 2022 And, then I just kept going. I brought my hat with me to keep my head from getting sunburned, but it was just too hot inside that hat. I decided to just try and walk on the shady side of the street...

Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1210 Share Posted December 7, 2022 By this time I still had nowhere in particular in mind to go. I'm normally much more prepared, but things seem to be falling apart in the preparedness department for me lately. I had an entire year to get ready for this and I flubbed it...

CallistaSkye Posted December 7, 2022 #1212 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Beautiful buildings! We went to San Juan but we went to the Cathedral the little square by it. We didn't do the other tours. I think you're being too hard on yourself! Sometimes it's nice to just wander around and not have a set itinerary. Is your map in any of your other reviews? You could always take photos and email them to yourself so that way you have them for future use.
Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1213 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Sorry about the motorcycle pics... I'm a rider, so I always like to check them out. Eventually I even ran across one exactly like mine, but in much worse condition...

Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1216 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Next, I wandered into this park FILLED with pigeons. I mean there must've been a million of them. I didn't stay long, as I didn't want any "souvenirs" on my head or shoulders... 14

No “flubbing” here Sid, you are giving all of us a great time this week, I love Old San Juan, it’s been a few years for us, my hope for you today is that you did indeed “get some real vacation time for yourself in!”
Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1218 Share Posted December 7, 2022 There was this good size iguana chilling over in the shade, so I wanted to see how close I could get. He wasn't fazed at all by my presence...

Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1221 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Next, I just started walking again. Up and down every street... Point. Click. Point. Click... Whenever I'm taking these pictures, I never stop to look at them. I just trust that my camera knows what it's doing and move on. I don't obsess over trying to get the perfect shot. It is what it is...

Rare sid_9169 Posted December 7, 2022 Author #1224 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Next thing I knew, I was all the way on the other side of the island near the ocean. The waves were massive, and reminded me of a dream I had last night. I was on a cruise ship, but at the very back, and low near the water. I looked out, and there was a giant wave coming towards us, and crashed right through the opening in the back of the ship...
