Cruising vs Sea Days

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I am assuming that your upcoming Alaska cruise is on a Celebrity ship.  The days of scenic cruising will be in areas where shore will be visible from the ship.  Depending on your specific itinerary views will be on both sides of the ship.  There will be activities on board, including trivia and so forth.  Celebrity Alaska itineraries have a naturalist on board who will have presentations listed in the Celebrity Today (planner).  Topics will include sea birds, whales, bears and other topics.

Restaurants will be open.

If you are cruising on an Alaska cruise it means the ship is taking you into a sound and close to a glacier. The naturalist on board will narrate as you enter and leave the sound.  It is a sight worth seeing and maybe some wildlife will appear.

I think it is the same as a sea day in that you don't get off the ship. However, there is scenery since you are closer to land.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Thats about It !

For people like my DW who dislikes Sea Days it makes her feel Better that there May be something to look at.............

The cruising days in Alaska are quite nice with lots to see very close to the ship, make sure you take a good set of binoculars with you. As far as facilities open on the ship, it is no different than days at sea. We are booked next January on a New Zealand cruise that includes 4 cruising days in and out of the different sounds around NZ.

Be sure to have gloves, hat, and  maybe something to cover your ears.   It gets very chilly if on the outside deck or watching from your veranda.   We were on our balcony, wearing  souvenir sweat shirts and the robes.   They also have blankets on the pool deck.   It may be wise to grab one of those also.

All  window seats are are at premium.  It is another form of chair hogs.  The same people  would stay there all day and night.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

To answer your question.  On Sea days many of the restaurants are open for lunch including MDR, Luminae and Lawn Club.   There may be others.

It is also nice to take a break on a port intensive cruise that arrive in a new port every morning at the crack of dawn.    Nice to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast and recharge.

We'll come well prepared, but I doubt we'll spend much time outside, this is one of the reasons we chose the Edge for this - infinite verandas sound like a great way to have a personal view - without having to be outside.
