Does Status count in the assignment of Guaranteed Staterooms?

If anything I would say status could work against you.

Say they have 2 cabins left and 2 guarantees to fill, one cabin is great midship location and the other is an obstructed view..  One is a new cruiser and the other is Diamond.  Who do they want to impress to get them back sailing a second time with Royal and who do they know that they have already won their loyalty and will cruise again regardless of room assignment.

In my case, I agree. I booked two balcony guaranteed rooms. The in-laws, who had never cruised, got assigned a room on deck 11 and I got an obstructed view room on deck 7 on Ovation.

Loyal cruisers do not come back and spend on the frills. As a generalization, they come on board and spend a minimal amount.

I think that this is inaccurate.s

My spending seems to be increasing.

As is mine.

My very first cruise 2007 I was in an inside cabin.  I never considered specialty dining.  I didn't even get the soda package.  I stuck to mostly just water, coffee or included juice with the odd drink I paid for.  I paid for one ship sponsored excursion and just self explored at the other ports of call.  No spa or photos or arcade or anything of that nature.  My only extravagant expenditure was getting sucked into a Park West auction and buying two paintings!  And Royal doesn't get anything from that spending.

My next one on Oasis is in a CLS. We have booked unlimited specialty dining, I will certainly drink more than my diamond drinks vouchers. We have cabana's booked at both Coco Cay and Labadee plus excursions at the two other stops.  I'm destined to lose money in the Casino. DW already has one massage booked in the spa and will likely book at least a second treatment onboard.  We usually purchase internet but don't have to on this one since it is an included benefit of Sky class.

I don't think amount of cruising has anything to do with onboard spending.  I think it is entirely dependent on disposable income. Hence why the casino gives away free cruises.

Have there been cases where Royal says, "Sorry, we don't have an empty cabin for your guarantee"...and you do not get to go on that cruise?

There is a thread here where exactly happened.   The person couldn't go on another date, and they'd booked two rooms and Royal fussed about refunding anything on the second cabin.  I seem to remember that they were just informed and not given an offer.

So is mine. For the last 5 (or maybe even 7?) years, the only extra I've been buying is the refreshment package. But now I've been buying dining packages and internet too.

I will say that if I was Diamond and getting 4 drink vouchers I probably wouldn't buy a drink package anymore, but I'd still buy the dining and internet. And I'm not against a day or 2 at the spa either, I just haven't done that yet.

No, I think it's correct. Most D+ are more than happy with 10 free drinks and maybe even a guarantee cabin. Specialty dining might be the exception.

I feel cheated.  I am only getting 5 free drink vouchers.   Who do I talk to on board to get the other 5?

That's fair enough. It would have made our willingness to buy guaranteed rooms much higher. Doesn't look like there are that many obscured rooms on Jewel.

There are some balconies on deck 7, mostly mid ship(other then the bump outs) that when standing at your balcony railing and looking straight down, you don't  see the ocean, you see the  tops of covers over the life boats. You can however look straight out and see plenty of the ocean from those balcony cabins

Deck 7 views, aft side of hump. This is probably Serenade.
