What is acceptable dress in the dining room - Voyager of the Seas Five Night Cruise

Recommended Posts

I have tried to search but the terms 'dress' and 'dining' bring up SO many threads and none were what I wanted.  It has been a while since I've been on RCL and have not cruised at all the past six years 😞  Are dress shorts and polo shirt acceptable for men in the dining room on non formal nights?  I assume on formal night, long pants and a button down shirt (no jacket/tie) will be acceptable, correct?

Thanks!

Any threads say the same .. anything but a bathing suit. I had a table mate show up in nice shorts on a dress up night. Nothing was said. Wear what feels comfortable.  No matter which ship.

We had another gal whose luggage got lost so she had to buy tee shirts in the onboard stores for formal night. None asked her when she came in.

Totally agree T-shirt and shorts are acceptable on rccl and you will not be alone.

Dress to impress night in MDR on Enchantment, April 20-28, 2023: A gentleman was in shorts, tank top, with a towel around his neck with his family next to us.

I do not think you have to worry about anything short of nudity.

They were a lovely family for we had some conversations with them (our tables were SOOOO close together). It did not bother me for I wanted to dress to impress my wife and could less about what anyone else was wearing.

Enjoy your cruise.

No need to worry but we can hope, right? 👀

Wait, I think I may have taken that the wrong way.

OMG! If I arrived in my birthday suite, the captain would have to immediately declare a medical emergency and go to the nearest city with a hospital that specialized in eye problems.

They will not be able to handle the overload.

😮😬🥴

The offical dress code is published .   However, men at night wear long pants with polo or collard shirts- no shorts unless you are a young child.  Ladies casual dresses or slacks with tops.  Formal nights we wear cocktail attire.  Some people spend all of their time in the casino and never dress- they also eat dinner at the buffets.   We enjoy celebrating our cruise- lived in sweats for almost three years time for new clothes (that fit!)

I stated in another thread that we were on the Voyager last October and on formal night a couple at the table next to us; She was wearing a frumpy gray sweatsuit (sweatshirt and pants with the string belt) and he was in bib overalls with a flannel shirt. Most people were dressed "smartly" but there are outliers like that couple.

Some people also never go to the casino or WJ and wear far more casual clothes to the MDR every night, including formal night, than you choose to.

Both you and them are doing nothing wrong and everyone should enjoy their cruise and their MDR meals.

Never said it is wrong- but based on my personal observations, I see this.  As long as people wear clean non smelly clothes it dosen't impact me!

I’d much rather walk by or sit near someone wearing shorts than someone that stinks of BO who is wearing more formal attire.  I’ve experienced a lot of both on cruise ships.

Agree!  I was talking to a couple who bragged the brought one carry on and I guess didn’t realize that clothes may look clean but absorb perspiration!!  Had to back away!

And they could have done that if they'd handwashed their clothes every night.  I was fine with just a school-sized backpack for a few weeks in Europe after everything was stolen in Barcelona.  It was fine, but Woolite was essential.

Wow, you had Woolite?!  All I had was a rock and a smooth stone with a facial hand-bar of soap which I crushed between the door and the jam to try and grind it into powder. I then pounded those dirty clothes into submission. They always felt "silky smooth" when I was done. Maybe it was the tenderizing of all of the fibers into a sheer fabric which the manufacturer never intended.

😁

I know the tricks of the trade and now I know you do too!

Regards.

☺️

Think rc shouldn't bother with a dress code anymore. Just put resort casual not Jean shorts, crocs, baseball caps, jerseys and enforce it.

I'm not wearing a tux again while someone is wearing Jean shorts and crocs.
