Some Questions

My wife and I are taking our first post pandemic cruise. I have a few questions. First, can I assume that there is no pre-cruise Covid test to take? What is the muster procedure on Oceania? I've read/watched that on other ships you watch a video and then upon boarding you go to your muster station to check in. Is there a phone app, or is everything on their website?  One final question for now.  I've read that on other cruise lines you have to chose a time to board. Is this the case on Oceania, too?  Thank you in advance for any information you can share.

Yes there is an assigned boarding time, you choose it when you do online check in. Muster is watching a video on stateroom tv and going to station to check in when you board ship. Covid test is dependant on country but most have dropped it now. No phone app as far as I know.

Hi there, I will answer those I can and leave blank those I cannot...

pre-cruise Covid test to take? Dependent on country

What is the muster procedure on Oceania? Video and check in

I Is there a phone app, or is everything on their website? Alas, still no app ☹️ really i wish they would. On cruiselines with an app, I tell our butler/room attendant not to deliver the daily paper

I've read that on other cruise lines you have to chose a time to board. Selected when you do online check-in

Most important, just have fun. Oceania is a great cruiseline.

You will get an email notification to watch the muster video prior to sailing so you can do it at home. Upon boarding we were immediately directed to an area where they checked us off as meeting the requirement. Then we proceeded to our stateroom. At least that is how it went on the Regatta.

Yes, it's a bit ridiculous that a luxury line doesn't have an app.

It’s so true that we all have different opinions on just about anything.  No way do I want to carry around a phone all day.  Mine goes right into the safe when I board. 😁

I hate to say it but IT is not Oceania’s strong point. As FDR shared in his M and G on Vista in May, they just did not have the $$ to invest in the development of a NEW Reservation System so they took one off the shelf. Their priorities have not been in IT but in other aspects of the guests experience, including some new ships. Remember Oceania was and is a small fish in a big sea  so let the Mass marketers create bells and whistles and medallions and other cutesy tech stuff to entertain the guests.  I am guessing it is a “Round to it” issue and an App has not risen to the top of the investment, To Do list.

Perhaps NCLH should invest the $$ for all three lines once they have shed some of their debt load and are more profitable. After all, they have just turned the corner to profitability and we hope they continue to generate the profits needed to sustain their excellence. JMHO.

Pay attention Bill, this is more the market Oceania caters to. Only you can decide if you fit in. If not it's better to stay with a Mass Market line.

Do you consider Viking a Mass Market line?

I would seeing as how I have seen Viking commercials and knew about the brand long before I ever heard of Oceania.  I just saw a Viking commercial the other day at the dentist.  I would consider that mass market.

If no casinos, no childrenno photographers, no art auctions, no charge for beer and wine with meals, no charge for alternative restaurants, no entrance fee for the spa, no inside staterooms, no formal nights, butlers, or white gloves is mass market, then yeah...Otherwise, nah 😉

I shuddered when someone complained about people listening to music and videos without earbuds by the pool. If that continues, I'll dig my phone out of the safe and play MY music (and it won't be pretty \m/...OK, not really, I like the rest of you too much)

Why on earth would you deliberately be nasty to someone who just wants to relax in peace?

I think you may have misunderstood me. I was joking that if I were peacefully relaxing and someone with a device was blasting music or videos, I would be tempted to blast right back. I wouldn't do it, but it would tempt me. I'm more likely to ask politely if they wouldn't mind using earbuds.

Sorry about that.  I misunderstood your meaning.🫢

I reread what I wrote and can see how that happened. I try to be clear, but it's difficult to proofread my own work. Humor is particularly dangerous (need more emojis!).

Maybe that is because Oceania is not a luxury line ☺️. It is firmly positioned as a premium line between the mass market lines and the luxury lines.

Reminds J of a friend decades ago who, when stopped next to a car with excessively loud music, would respond by playing the 24 hour news station at full blast...not recommended these days...

Yes, an app would be a nice option

If they do an App and do NOT make me use it that would be fine. Did my last RCCL cruise last October to celebrate my birthday with a friend who had never cruised. They kept telling me that what I need to know was in the App and the only reason I knew what to do or to ask about was because I was diamond with them. I turn my phone off and throw it in a drawer when cruising and that will never change. I was raised by a mother that took the phone off the hook to take a nap. I am just not going to be that connected. I have a great camera for pictures that is water proof so I can use it snorkeling or can take pictures in the rain as I had to in Iceland on my one and only trip there. And it fits in my pocket and I plan to use it next February in Antarctica as it can go to zero in temp. But I understand this day and age people wanting that technology. Just do not make me have to use it if I want a simpler life style. Julia
