Bloody Mary Mix?

Bloody Mary is my drink of choice and when I was on the Legend last year, I found them too hot and spicy for my taste.  I asked if they could make them less burning, but the waiter said it's a mix and that's the way it is.   I don't know which mix they use.

We like a good BM, amd DH is an aficionado!   Years ago we had an excellent mix and asked what it was.  We had always made our own, but sometimes it handy to have prepared bar mix, but finding the right one is tough.   On that cruise we found Ocean Spray BM mix.   Superb!   We use it to this day.  Problem is, it is not a retail product.  You must buy it through a beverage distributor or a source on the internet.

we find the best price is WalMart online site.  We order a case at a time and get free shipping usually, or we can do store pick up.

last time we were on Carnival they were using Mr and Mrs Ty’s.

My sister always drinks BM on cruises and loves them, so on a recent Paradise cruise I decided to try one.  OMG it was so hot and spicy that I could not drink it - you could see loads of black pepper floating in it.  My sister wasn't with me this cruise, but in the past she would always ask for it to be a little spicy.  This time the bartender told me they use a pre-mix (Filthy) and he couldn't adjust it.

We will be back on the Paradise in less than two weeks, and my sister will be so disappointed - there is no way she will be able to drink something that HOT.  We will have CHEERS, but I was thinking about bringing the small cans of Mr & Mrs. T's onboard and just ask for a shot (or two) of vodka and mix our own.

Well, there's an idea. Now if we can just find out how to get celery on these ships.

Last few times we've cruised we have found that some bars on board live and die by premixes, whereas other bars seem to have more available resources.  Maybe just poke around to some of the other bars, see what they have?

I definitely recall the Tides Pool Bar having additional horseradish mix to spice up their more-sedate Bloody Mary mix, if desired.

However, from your descriptions that's exactly how we like our Bloody Marys, so now we just need to make sure the mix is "Filthy", lol.

I enjoy a good Bloody Mary from time to time.  The last few I had on a Carnival ship were not good at all.  I like mine spicy but this had more of a cocktail sauce flavor to it.  I found it undrinkable.

That cocktail sauce taste is the horseradish they use to spice it up, instead of fresh ground pepper, tabasco, and or some other hot sauce (I like Caribbean hot sauces like a Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce - whatever is yellow and hot!).

I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered one while sitting in the casino one morning. I figured I would have to toss back a basic bland Bloody Mary because I didn't think about the fact that I was at a slot machine, not near the bar where the hot sauce is, and the waitress didn't ask if I wanted it spicy when I ordered it.

The horseradish, black pepper, hot sauce flavor and heat caught me off guard. I absolutely loved it. I think I had 4 of them that morning before my family woke up and wanted to go to breakfast 🙃. The only thing that could have made it better, I think, would have been a few more olives (they are kind of stingy with them) and some celery of course.

I am surprised by all the hating on bloody Mary’s. They were awesome on Sunshine a couple of weeks ago. If they are using a mix fleetwide, I definitely like it. I don’t like horseradish taste, so it definitely wasn’t heavy on that. In the past, they have been very different depending on what bar you order from, so we usually search for the best one and then order from there the rest of the cruise. But this time they were the same at MDR (brunch) and in the casino. So no need to go elsewhere. Always served with two olives, which my husband doesn’t like, so I get 4!

I had some really bad bloody Mary’s on a land vacation recently, so I was super excited about these!

Always thought BM’s were like meat loaf. You could make 10 and all taste different. And everyone has a different opinion on how they should taste! I personally love vodka with Clamato juice, squirt of lime and tons of salt!

They will add Tabasco to kick it up if you ask.  I like it spicy and enjoy the Jalepeno stuffed olives that go along with it.

Oh, I forgot about that olive!  Only one olive I had was like that, stuffed with a hot red pepper, not jalapeño because it looked just like a regular pimiento. But it lit me up!  But all the others were regular olives. Strange.

Yeah, the more I try to recall, it seems to me the BMs that I most recently had on board Carnival were made with a standard BM mix, and the bartender defaulted to adding a horseradish mix as the "spice", but you could dial that back or omit it and ask for Tabasco instead.

Well, that's a Bloody Caesar, and yes, that is very yummy.  Thanks Canada for making it so popular!

My mom is 50% Canadian.  Her dad was from tiny Buckingham, Quebec. Still have a summer camp there. Must be why! 🇨🇦
