Knitters and Natters?

On a wonderful RT to Hawaii on the Grand a half dozen years ago, there was a group called Knitters and Natters. We met on sea days to talk and do our crafts. One woman even brought her sewing machine! Another was a published author and expert on Lacemaking. We had the best time. Does Princess still have this group?

Yep. My wife always attends. She usually just takes her tatting as it's so small but we have a long cruise coming up and I think she will take knitting in addition to her tatting. I have see a few men in the group from time to time as well as the ladies. We will be on Grand Princess so it will likely be in Crooner's. On the larger Grand class ships it's often in Adagio. Dining rooms aren't setup to be a good fit for this activity.

On one cruise there was nothing listed for this activity so my wife went to Guest Services and asked that they put it in the Patter daily. It was added at her request and was in daily afterward.

For my upcoming cruise on the Caribbean Princess next month, it is also listed in Crooners. DW always attends with some knitting. Since I normally spend all day in Crooners 😀, I guess I'll see her there. It is unhosted, but they organize it themselves. If they don't like the location Princess assigns, they'll move it somewhere else.

Huh! Nice to know that they *can* be responsive at times!

We have only had one cruise on a Royal class ship so far. I had no fondness for the way it was setup with all the loud noise from the Atrium echoing up through the entire space. Having loud bands performing in that area destroyed the peaceful atmosphere we were used to having in that lower deck and the decks above that were open to the noise from below. Sure, on the Grand Class ships there was sometimes music in that area. Often it was strings. Sometimes it was piano or a solo guitarist. If it ever got loud it was maybe some Jazz from a few members of the crew band. It was never a "party band" or anything like that. It never actually disrupted the upper few decks that were open to whatever was happening below. Like I said, we have only sailed on a Royal Class ship once (actually it was the Royal Princess herself) but we were not impressed with the noise from deck 5 or the smoke from the casino that permeated the deck(s) in that area.

I’ve found that people with projects tend to pop up spontaneously whoever you can find light, refreshments, and some light entertainment. Our last Royal class didn’t have an official meetup but many of us (a needle felter, a tatter, and two knitters) found ourselves together in Crooners often mid morning. I love the seats with windows out to the promenade that are in the hall but so many people use those for perpetual naps that those are hard to get!
