Retreat and babysitting

I’ve tried and attempted to get babysitting on ships since the the Covid restart without much success. And have had another kid since 🤣. It’s been advertised as recently as 2023, so I’m still optomistic. Has anyone actually been able to obtain this service, and on what ship? Going on Beyond this summer and am oh so hopeful we can get it for even one night.

Environment may be stricter now but when our kids were really little 25 years ago, occasionally we independently hired salon/spa employees to babysit the kids in our cabin when we were unable to get a sitter through Guest Relations..

The babysitters are crew members with regular jobs, often in the kids club.  They can sign up to babysit on their off time and it provides them with some extra income.  It seems that since the restart and with most ships sailing full the crew is stretched thin with their regular jobs.  So it could be that few if any are signing up for extra hours.

When we were hiring babysitters through Guest Relations, the eligible sitters were limited to Celebrity crew and it did not include subcontracted employees like the ones that worked in the spa/salon or casino which is why we made independent arrangements with those people on occasion. I wonder if that limitation is still true today.

Kids on a Celebrity cruise AND in the Retreat?  I feel sorry for your fellow passengers who look for a peaceful experience in the retreat.  Leave the kids at home, then there's no problem with a babysitter.

I would think they would be wearing visors!

I would think that it is still in place.   Celebrity has a hard policy that crew members are not permitted in a guest's room unless assigned like a babysitter, room attendant etc.  I know a crew member that had her parents on board and had to get special approval to visit with them in their room.  She said violation is a dismiss-able offense.

This rule is place for passenger and crew safety reason -- in the "old" days of course there were incidences of a crew member being lured into a passengers cabin for a liaison and later being charged with rape.

Interesting old thread from 2005

Available on all ships at an hourly rate of $19.  Only time it was an issue was on a Christmas cruise with several hundred children on board.

When they switched it to Retreat only it was moved to $30/hr for up to 3 kids in the same family. Have you done it lately and did they revert the pricing?

You must be fun to cruise with. I promise, my kids are cute, the older one is exceptionally polite (and well traveled) and I enjoy spending time with them. We’ve never not felt welcomed in the Retreat, no matter the ship. Every now and again we want to enjoy a show or specialty dining that they might not and rather than subjecting everyone to something they aren’t into, we would prefer a few hours of babysitting.

I know I'm going to draw the wrath of a lot of people (Including Priscilla) but I don't think children belong on a Celebrity cruise.  Celebrity is a more "adult" cruise line.  There may be a kids club onboard, but there are no slides, no splash zone, no go carts, no roller coasters, no carousels, etc.  Maybe you should take your kids on a Royal, Norwegian, or Carnival cruise.  They'll have a much better time.  Just something to think about.

I disagree!  You can tell old people to go to hell!  You can't do that to children!
