Live from Nieuw Statendam 14 day Canary Island Allure April 21 - May 5, 2024

Recommended Posts

I will do the 'housekeeping' of menus etc later, but we had a great day touring part of Tenerife arranged by @sailingdutchy Tony .  We had a great day, a fine lunch and wonderful conversation.  The guide whom Tony picked was absolutely top class. We visited Icod de los vinos and Garachico along the north coast. Our guide selected various plates for our lunch which we all shared, including bean soup, grilled cheese with sauces, berenjenas con miel ( deep fried sliced egg plant drizzled in local palm honey), and goat stew with canarias potatoes.

The onboard entertainment tonight was a Flamenco group, who gave an above average, though unatmospheric, performance.  Flamenco is not local to las Canarias but the tourists expect it!

We have a late sailaway tonight at 11pm for the short trip to Gran Canaria.

Nieuw Statendam moored at the terminal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.  The terminal building was spotlessly clean and bright.  Security was within the terminal building and there was a shop selling alcohol after the security check.  There was no further check when boarding the ship.

And here is the location of the docked NSDM relative to the city.

If I have an error on my bill (which I check every morning) I use the “Let Us Know” feature on the Navigator app to have it corrected

Thanks for the reminder to use the App instead of waiting in the dang Guest Services line!!

Two thoughts for today if I may.

Yesterday we sat in our bus waiting for our tour to begin when a discussion ensued between a couple with a “service dog” in a stroller and our driver. This took thirty minutes and we are not sure what exactly happened but in the end they got off our bus and got on a different one. Possibly with a dog lover!

Heard at breakfast today
”Sir how would you like your eggs?

I would like them hard!

Sometimes  it might be useful to learn a few English words before boarding 😀

Not sure I understand?  Which of those is not English?

What he meant was a “hard boiled egg”

I thought it was funny but might be my twisted sense of humour.

Yes, agree. English language can be so open to misinterpretation.  E.g. what is the opposite of 'easy'? Well it is 'difficult' or 'hard'.  So, what is the opposite of ' egg over easy'?  Is it 'egg over hard' (which is the way DW asks for them)?  Eggs 'hard' could be fried or boiled.

However if I had to order eggs in Dutch, I would probably end up a vegan.🙄

Viewers of Port Evergades Sailaways will understand the significance of this feeling of Deja vu!  MSC Virtuoso was docked at the adjacent pier when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a familiar sight.........white trucks! There were similar trucks yesterday in Teneriffe.
