We usually bring $2.00 bills with us & I give one each time they deliver, unless I order a lot than I give more. Remember to specify all the sides you want, cream, sugar, or butter. Room service is also a nice way to end the day to. I love to have a night cap & maybe a little dessert before turning in for the night. Enjoy your room service & your cruise! I usually order more than just coffee, so I tip $2 or $3 -- it's worth at least that much to me to enjoy the convenience of eating in my room/bathrobe. Cotton Posted May 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Since it's continental b'fast items only, I tip $1, as I usually get only a carafe of coffee and Danish/croissant. Other times, with more items, I might tip $2, but never over that amount. Before somebody calls me a cheapskate...My rationale is that the cabin steward gets only $3.50 for his full day of service, so I think $2 is plenty for one little trip by a room service guy.;) I keep a stack of one dollar bills in the top drawer of the dresser, just for tips. I do one other little thing...I always hand the room service person a mini-pack of M&Ms along with his tip. BIG smiles from them every time! The article regarding tip money is May 9th. If you want to read it, scroll down. He had an interesting article regarding the currency we use to tip with. Basically, he said that the crew have a hard time with $2 bills in exchanging them or can't get them exchanged at all. The same for old or ripped money and even $20's. We bought a big bag at the port of the packaged M & M's and gave that in addition to the $. They really did seem to like it a lot. Thanks Cotton. Do yourself a favor and try the dining room at least one morn. It is so much nicer to sit and be served. Actually it is sometimes faster than the buffet. So, if you order a light breakfast that may be $10 worth of food, tip $1.50 to $2.00. If you tip $1 sometimes and $2 other times, that would be about right. (At home, I don't even have a piece of toast for b'fast.) Do yourself a favor and try the dining room at least one morn. It is so much nicer to sit and be served. Actually it is sometimes faster than the buffet. Since I have all three meals every day in the dining room, I couldn't agree more. Since they tend to put each item in it's own covered dsih, the number of dishes sometimes can multiply quickly. My 3 yr old grandson and I ordered some lunch one day while in port (it was naptime, and I jumped on the chance to spend some alone time with him, and maybe get a nap, too). Our order came with 6 covered dishes, but it wasn't that much food! That was a lot for the server to carry all the way from the galley to our cabin. I tip anywhere from $1 - $5 depending on what/how much we order and the attitude of the room service person. Yes, you can get change at the Purser's desk.... The down side is there is always a very long line there for anything, so it's best if you can bring them along. There's no fee for change. Actually (and keep in mind this is my opinion), I put more than enough tips on my Sail/sign card, but the night before the cruise, I take them ALL OFF!! I see no need to tip anyone. THey get paid enough, as they already do, since you people tip them. THey don't have to be in the business, they should expect people like me, and also restaurants should too.
