Room Service Tipping

We are leaving on the Miracle tomorrow and have decided for the first time to get room service for breakfast.

How much do you usually tip?

Usually one dollar if it is just coffee and danish.... two dollars for a full breakfast.

We usually bring $2.00 bills with us & I give one each time they deliver, unless I order a lot than I give more.

 

Remember to specify all the sides you want, cream, sugar, or butter.

 

Room service is also a nice way to end the day to. I love to have a night cap & maybe a little dessert before turning in for the night.

Free room service -- how cool is that? I usually order more than just coffee, so I tip $2 or $3 -- it's worth at least that much to me to enjoy the convenience of eating in my room/bathrobe.

Since it's continental b'fast items only, I tip $1, as I usually get only a carafe of coffee and Danish/croissant. Other times, with more items, I might tip $2, but never over that amount.

 

Before somebody calls me a cheapskate...My rationale is that the cabin steward gets only $3.50 for his full day of service, so I think $2 is plenty for one little trip by a room service guy.;)

 

I keep a stack of one dollar bills in the top drawer of the dresser, just for tips. I do one other little thing...I always hand the room service person a mini-pack of M&Ms along with his tip. BIG smiles from them every time!

He had an interesting article regarding the currency we use to tip with. Basically, he said that the crew have a hard time with $2 bills in exchanging them or can't get them exchanged at all. The same for old or ripped money and even $20's. He's stated that clean $1'S, 5'S AND 10's are the easiest for crew to exchange. I would have never thought of that!

I tipped $2 for every room service order and I followed Cottons wonderful tip. We bought a big bag at the port of the packaged M & M's and gave that in addition to the $. They really did seem to like it a lot. Thanks Cotton. We ordered coffee and croissants every morn then went to the dining room for a full breakfast later on. The salt air does make you eat more. Do yourself a favor and try the dining room at least one morn. It is so much nicer to sit and be served. Actually it is sometimes faster than the buffet.

Think about it this way... if it were not free, what would you be paying? Then the tip would be 15% - 20% of that amount.

 

So, if you order a light breakfast that may be $10 worth of food, tip $1.50 to $2.00. If you tip $1 sometimes and $2 other times, that would be about right.

 

This is pretty much the same advice almost everyone is giving on the board.

That's just what I do. Have that little bite w/first coffee, then head to the dining room. You're right - it's the sea air! (At home, I don't even have a piece of toast for b'fast.)

Since I have all three meals every day in the dining room, I couldn't agree more. I love being pampered - not standing in long lines at a buffet; besides, the food's fresher and certainly much better presentation than a buffet.:rolleyes:

$1 tip for each person ordering.

 

Since they tend to put each item in it's own covered dsih, the number of dishes sometimes can multiply quickly.

 

My 3 yr old grandson and I ordered some lunch one day while in port (it was naptime, and I jumped on the chance to spend some alone time with him, and maybe get a nap, too). Our order came with 6 covered dishes, but it wasn't that much food! That was a lot for the server to carry all the way from the galley to our cabin.

I'm not trying to start a riot, I am just voicing my opinion. This is the way I act towards crew, staff, watiers, etc, not you guys. You guys are a great source of info, truely.

Most of the postings are truly perfect advice. I tip anywhere from $1 - $5 depending on what/how much we order and the attitude of the room service person. The minimum regardless would be $1 as they do not share in the same tip system as the dining room staff or cabin stewards.

So my question is, can I take a bigger bill to the purser or casino and get it changed for $1's? There's not a fee for that is there? I can't imagine that they could charge you for that, but then why does everyone stress the importance of bring lots of $1's?

Yes, you can get change at the Purser's desk.... The down side is there is always a very long line there for anything, so it's best if you can bring them along. There's no fee for change.

Take a look at you S&S bill. :rolleyes: They will be glad to add it when you don't tip for room service.

Actually (and keep in mind this is my opinion), I put more than enough tips on my Sail/sign card, but the night before the cruise, I take them ALL OFF!! I see no need to tip anyone. THey get paid enough, as they already do, since you people tip them. THey don't have to be in the business, they should expect people like me, and also restaurants should too.
