You left out, "bumping unexpectedly into mother-in-law at the barffet when you didn't know she was on your cruise."

I have to say that, for the most part, while naked people don't bother me, it always seems to me that those who should NOT be naked (like me) are generally the very people who ARE naked (I'm never naked on the ship unless I'm hidden from site in my own cabin).

I once saw a 70 or 80 something grandma in what turned out to be a thong bikini. Sort of looked like two dried up Christmas hams with a string running between them if you know what I mean. Flipper wouldn't have even saved that from the sharks.

Sounds like some of the ones that I have seen walking up and down Orient Beach in St. Maarten!!!!

I cannot believe that 2.6% of people think that other people dressed in the wrong attire would spoil their cruise:eek:  I am about to take my first cruise on Mariner in Sept, and I am more nervous about the formal dress code than I am Flying from one of the most Highly populated Muslim areas of England to the US. This can't be right. I am panicking about if my dress choice will be right. But you know what? If some dried up old Fashion Police are spending their evenings checking out what other people are wearing then they must be having a boring old cruise. Not to say I won't be checking out what other people are wearing, all part of a females nature, but I will not care if a 90yr old granny wears a G string for dinner, I'll be too busy gazing at the anticipated buffet (No I'm not a piggy!!) and enjoying this hard saved for hol!!!!:)

I had to laugh at this! Yes, it is part of female nature for us to check out what everyone is wearing, but don't sweat it about formal. I'm sure you'll be just fine. What I found funny was the 90 year old granny in a G string! It wouldn't ruin my dinner but it would certainly make for some entertainment and interesting dinner conversation! :D

from the top down would be: sinking ship (YIKES!!!!   ); bad food (a big part of our cruise experience is to eat great foods and to try things we've never had before), and finally loud and abusive behavior is really an irritant to me. I sometimes have to deal with that type of behavior at work and really would be upset to run in to it on vacation.

All this talk of ruining cruises, which would ruin it for you?
I voted for the naked sunbathers, Not that it would ruin my cruise. What would ruin my cruise would be when my wife caught me gawking and drooling all over a 20 something ....dear you can put that baseball bat down now........:D

You guys are way to funny :D Mind you, if I saw a 90 year old granny in a thong (see Doug's post for an enlightened description) I wouldn't wait for the ship to sink...I'd strap a hundred pounds of iron to my back and jump! :)

I dind't read all of the responses. I voted nothing because I can walk away from most everything. The ship sinking would make quite an impact on everyone, of course. But, it would be quite a story to tell if everyone was evacuated on time and there were no injuries.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how the behavior of other pax or clothes that someone else is wearing would ruin a cruise for someone. The ships are huge, you can find something else to do, someone else to look at.

I voted for sinking ship BUT what about BAD weather! THAT would ruin it for me too. This picture haunts me:

That picture gave me the chills. We are leaving tomorrow on the Mariner and with the predicted hurricane in the gulf, I don't want this to become a reality for us since it is our first cruise.

You've got a point about the ship sinking. In addition we would probably be able to get a FULL REFUND plus several FREE CRUISES out of it!:D If no one gets hurt, there's no down side.

As far as smokers go, I can get up and leave from just about any part of the ship when smoke gets to me - but driving me off of my balcony is another thing. I had it on one side of me on the last cruise & that was no fun. I would go crazy if I had it on both sides. Good for you for having the courage to ask for a compromise - and good for them for giving you one.

I love to swim and am good at it, but I would prefer to do it voluntarily, rather than Titanic-style, so I chose "ship sinking", and I'm allergic to cigarette smike in any quantity, so "smoking" is a close second. I can deal with all those other bits of unpleasantness...there's not too much that would ruin a cruise for me. Surprised that "hurricane" was not an option we could choose....

Pete, I thought I heard some odd noises last night after the thunderstorm, my husband got up and went outside and looked. But It did not hit my block. I am sure I will find out later today when I venture out. I am sure if anything big happened locally those darned sirens would have gone off.

Pete it was a liitle one that set down in massapequa. At FO on their scales, tree tops, a few downed trees, taking out a powerline. But they that has happened with noreeasters ( in my back yard many years ago our 60 foot pine tree came down on the lines, took days for LILCO to get it fixed)

LILCO!!!

ARGH! Shivers still run down my back on that one. And I've been off the island 6 years! And how many years before that did LILCO "depart"!

Living in Bay Shore, Hurricane Gloria....no power for days!

Not soon enough, I remember stockpiling candles for the storm season! The year after my one pine came down the other one did. Only one day without power then, the first one five days! ARRGH is right! I have closet full of candles, you still never know:eek:
