How important is the Cruise Director to you?

i have no idea who any cruise directors on any of the 19 cruises we have taken were. Do not care. We do not go to talks, shows, bingo, art auctions, poolside activities or anything associated with the staff. i do know who the bar managers are, best bartenders, casino manager, best craps dealers, maitre d', good wait staff. do not care about room steward as i have been on cruises and never seen them many times except the day we arrive and ask for two ice buckets filled twice a day!

Hey Cork Popper, you are my kind of cruiser! I agree with you entirely, except that I always have lots of contact with my steward. In fact I would have to say that who my steward is, is far more important than who the cruise director is.

It is of no importance to me. I suppose if I had one that was so bad it impacted my cruise experience (not sure what they would have to do to acheive this), I would keep an eye open for him or her in the future, but I presume anyone that bad would likely not be around in the future.

On a long cruise it may make a difference- but as a previous poster said, they are more likely to detract than to add to the onboard experience.

I only had one postive experience with a CD and that was 7 years ago... His name will come to me. It ws a 13 nght med cruise,,,, Keith... ?? He was really a parody of a CD which was part of the joke.

I think that most of us get tired of the same tired jokes and routines. Instead of entertainment, it becomes really annoying.

Having read these boards for years, I thought the CD was very important to many posters and have read some people choose cruises based on this. So I've taken note who the CD was on each cruise but I dont remember all the names. We don't socialize with the staff, I'm not sure how so many people have these close encounters to judge them. The Bingo caller is more likely to entertain me and make a corny activity fun. It is interesting to watch all the wardrobe changes as the CD goes from one activity to the next.

I couldn't agree more Tom. We could care less if we even have a CD.

Normally, I would say the CD has no impact on the quality of my cruise. However, I liked the CD on my last cruise, the Island Princess in May. I think his name was Richard Joseph. It seemed he had been a CD all his life and he gave a very informative and intersting talk on the history of cruise ships. Seemed like he had been on most of them.

Otherwise, the CDs seem a little too bubbly for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got me in as I don't care. I go for the ship and the price. I really don't even care where the ship goes either. I prefer longer cruise with more sea days, but I have been known to do a 7 day cruise and get off the ship for maybe a half hour depending where it is docked at. I just love sailing around in the ocean. Hence, you can usually find me looking for a repositiong cruise..

As long as I am not bothered to participate when I do not want to makes no diff to me.

Except for the time I was on the Star for two weeks in Aus/NZ we had a rather mature crowd and my friends and I hung out with the cruise staff every night. They made that trip more special. They even did some port tours with us.

Not important at all...we would never book a cruise because of a CD, nor would be avoid a ship for the same reason. It is of no interest to know who they are in advance, either. Our enjoyment would have nothing to do with them.

Ditto :D

Isn't it amazing how different we cruisers are.

On another thread many posters are extolling the virtues of the CD and explaining why the CD enhances their cruise experience, while most of us here find the CD has absolutely little if any effect on our cruise enjoyment.

Certainly, we could care less who the CD is since he/she does not effect in any way our cruise experience.

The cruise population is very diverse. Some like Coke and some Like Pepsi.

Some revel in group games and others enjoy other kinds of activities -- and so it goes.

Makes no difference to us either! As long as events are well coordinated by them and they do not have one of those "terribly annoying voices" that we have to listen to over and over, we are happy.

We once had a husband/wife team once and no one could stand them, they were so self important that many were making jokes and doing little skits of how they acted together. I believe this might have been on Holland America but not sure, memory lapse.

Just give me a good cruise at a decent price with nice service and we are happy cruisers!
