why is the Liberty so cheap?

I am looking at booking a cruise for 9/2007 and the Liberty is doing a 6 night sailing on 9/9/07 to freeport,(yuck), Costa Maya, and Grand Cayman from Fort Lauderdale. An inside4 guarantee is only $349pp.

I was always under the impression the newer ships cost more money.

Is there something wrong with this ship or something?

Nothing wrong with it. It's a beautiful ship......prettiest Carnival ship I've seen. Sept is off season when kids are back in school & during hurricane season. Prices are usually lower then. Sounds like an excellent price. I'd jump on it.

Law of Supply and Demand in work. They have a large supply and a small demand. ;)

We are taking this same cruise in February-I'm sure the ship will be really nice-it's a sister ship to Valor, which we loved! I'm not crazy about the itinerary, but we got a good deal on a balcony cabin-our first! I anticipate enjoying my vacation anyway-will just have more time to enjoy the ship if I don't like the ports! It's true-I haven't heard many good things about Freeport-have inquired a few times about ideas, but haven't really found anything great. Suggestions, anyone? It's sure got too be better than being in Wisconsin that time of year!;)

yeah, not too thrilled with Freeport, but it still is bettr than the Northeasat in winter. I have been trying to book the Jeep Tour, which says it is new. It is not available yet on the Carnival website. At least it looks like it will be a different experience. I remember the last time I was in Freeport - early 80's and they took us on a bus tour - of the Bank, the Gas Station - the Liquor Store and a Perfume Factory in a small trailer :D

Freeport has a lot to offer, Grand Bahama Island has some very beautiful beaches Owhere only people will come after the Kayak tour. I don't like shopping, maybe that's the reason I really like this island.

my 2 cents on the topic is that the ship is cheaper because it's sailing out of the port everglades located in Fort. Lauderdale instead of Miami.

Fort. Lauderdale may have lower operating cost for the vessel. For example when i book a flight out of south florida I usually travel out of FLL (the airport in fort lauderdale) because it's cheaper and less hectic than MIA (miami international)... taxes are even slightly cheaper in Broward County.

It's all about getting a piece of the pie for Fort Lauderdale.

I'm guessing you've never sailed in September. ;)

Agree, September is still hurricane season and there is big weather risk for your vacation then and prices SHOULD be lower to those taking on that risk. Also agree that it is supply and demand and they want to keep those casinos full and their bars busy. They can break even on your room and be okay with that.

Hey fellow Wisconsinite....I'm in Door County...... when we were in Freeport in 2005 we did the Peterson Caye Kayak and Snorkel trip offered through the ship and thought it was great.... Kayaking in the ocean is way different than in Wisconsin and I found out that day that I love snorkeling....

We're also sailing on the Liberty 09-09-07. We're with a group and booked our first aft balcony cabin:) Prices were very, very good but IMHO it's because we are sailing during prime hurricane season and you are taking a chance that your vacation will be affected. Hope next year is as quiet as this one has been:)

We were on the Liberty in January. It's a nice ship. It's huge! Of course at the time I had only been on the sensation so it was like night and day! There were a couple things that were annoying to me but overall it was a great trip! I had never been to the bahamas and didn't know of cruise critic back then. I'm a big shopping fan and I would certainly pass on that if I ever went back (which I don't care to do). We found a nice little beach where there was alot going on. They had these boat rides that looked really fun (I'm wondering if those were the banana boats I've heard mentioned here before). We thought that would have been fun to try but we didn't have alot of time left. The other ports were just fine. I would certainly consider this itinerary and this ship again! I just would pass on the shopping in the bahamas.

Remember...It's a 6 night cruise.

Exactly........Plus kids are back in school and it is hurricane season

Also if you know where to go in Freeport......they have some of the most beautiful beaches we have seen........sand is like sugar

If we book the Liberty maybe we'll see you. Still up in the air between Liberty, Mariner of the Sea, and Caribbean Princess. I'm leaning more towards Mariner since it's for my wifes birthday and she wants to cruise in one of those promenade cabins. If it was my choice I'd be on the Caribbean Princess. In the end I may vote with my wallet and cruise the Liberty, who knows.

I have no problem staying on the ship in Freeport and utilizing the water slide.:D

That price in fact doesnt sound that low. We are sailing the valor Dec 10-17, 7 nights, paid $340 for 4e, inside on the 8th deck, Verandah. We then paid $340 for the same floor Dec 17-24 another 7 nights. We didnt get a discount due to the B2B as we decided to do the second cruise after the first was already booked at that price. hhmm

You're reading it wrong...

It's not an "inside guarantee"...

Here's what it is...

Below the "Riviera" Deck, (Deck 1), there's a "Deck Zero"...

They don't show it on the printed Deck Plans, but...

...here's the basic layout:

There are several rows of wooden benches running perpindicular to the length of the ship. There is a hole in the side of the ship at each bench with a long oar protruding through each. Each bench has a series of iron shackles for arms and legs. Behind each 8 or 10 rows of benches is a platform for the "Motivational Cruise Director"--a position most of us don't see on the other decks. This is a large man with a bullwhip whose job it is to motivate the Deck Zero passengers.

Deck Zero comes with some additional services not provided to the passengers on other decks:

1) Free Fitness classes--"Rowing"

2) Personal food service of "Bread and Water" with no need to visit the Dining Room or Buffet.

3) No Formal Nights

4) That extraordinary low price of $349 per person!!!

We were on the Glory in October 2005, right in the middle of that awful hurricane season. We got a great rate on a room! Because of the hurricanes, our itinerary was completely changed. Instead of going to Belize and Mexico, which was being battered by Wilma, the captain steered the ship out of the way of Alpha and we went to Nassau, the British Islands and Puerto Rico. We still had a wonderful time. The downside was also that we flew in Lauderdale the day before our cruise and Carnival could not tell us as we were leaving for the airport, if the cruise would even leave. A hurricane was already hitting the Florida Keyes which was on our original itinerary. We left for the airpot anyway and our cruise ship did leave. They also could not tell us the day before where we were going.

I'm good with itinerary changes since we have to been to just about all the islands numerous times. Let's hope that there is not another hurricane season like that year for a longgggggg time.

I've done it. It's not a bad deal, though you do have to work quite hard to get up to ramming speed whenever there's a sighting of an RCCL ship.
