Smoking in the casino?

Hi all,

My fiance and I are booked on the 12/16 serenade. I am a fan of the casinos on ships, but my FI is not. He has only been on 1 cruise before (i've been on several), and now he refuses to step foot in the casino on the ship. How bad is it on the serenade? is there enough ventilation? What is the smoking policy in other public areas of the ship?

I haven't been on the Serenade. On other ships, the smoke in the casino is enough to bother me most nights. Some ships have small non-smoking sections of slots. They don't do much good since there's not adequate ventilation to keep smoke from drifting into them.

What I've found is I can occasionally enjoy playing the slots on quiet afternoons on sea days--when there aren't as many smokers around.

I have not been on the serenade, but I have been on the Sovereign, the Mariner and the Radiance....the smoking in the casino is no worse than any other casino. If smoking bothers you, then....not everyone smokes, but some do...so don't sit next to that person.

I hope you have a fabulous time.

Yes, but it's like cats.

You know how the cat always knows which person is the cat-hater, and goes up and rubs all over that person?

I can sit down at a slot machine, with no one within 5 machines of me, and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a smoker comes and plops down RIGHT NEXT TO ME.

And I mean the kind of smoker who not only SMOKES, but blows in MY direction.

Maybe when you go in to the casino you should not be wearing your "I Hate Smoking" t-shirt.......;)

I cant tell you how many times I have been sitting at a slot-machine smoking, and a person sits down next to me and starts waving their hand in front of their face. And then coughs right in my face. eek

Merion, I understand what you are saying but I tend to have the reverse problem. On one cruise I sat down at a video poker machine, taking the one next to the wall. I had an ashtray and cigs sitting out, clearly visible. To my left there were 10 or 11 machines with not one in use. Sure enough a lady sits down right next to me. It's like I was wearing a sign that said "Sit here so you can make faces at me and wave your hand."

Strange how that works both ways. :)

BTW, if I go in and the area with video poker machines is close to being filled, I make the choice to play and not smoke or forego playing until another time.

I think that person sits next to me when you aren't on the cruise. It happens every time.

SomeBeach (Micki) ~ I was going to post almost exactly the same thing that you have posted. As considerate smokers, our experiences in casinos seem to be completely the same. You're right - it really does work both ways.

I agree as I smoke also but I am careful to stay in the smoking areas only. On the Explorer there are banks of slot machines designated as non smoking only and I did see at least one roulette table that was non smoking. I'm not sure about the other tables as I only play roulette. The desinated slot areas and the tables are clearly marked with non smoking signs. ;)

It is sort of like having a "no peeing" area in the swimming pool.
