Lesbian Couples who love cruising

Yes - we rented cars at all but one of the ports. I had fun planning what my better half and parents call "Tina's Tours." This simply means that I did a ton of research on this and other Web sites and read through a stack of books from the trusty Fairfax County Library. If you're interested, I posted our Hawaii itinerary at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=989068&highlight=

It is indeed a small world! I travel across the Potomac to Maryland every morning for work and we go to the Maryland women's basketball games when we can.

Thanks for the links! I just sent you a couple emails. :)

ChapinDog - can't help you with that, but we've met other lesbian couples on our past cruises usually on the excursions.

Good to know, thanks. Many of the friends we made last time were people we met on excursions (ATVing, snorkeling, and seaspi-ing) or through the CC M&G. Strangely enough, on a ship of a couple thousand people, the people we made friends with on the excursion also had made friends with the people we met through the M&G (we figured this out when we all ran into each other by the pool)…and one of them was serving in the Army with my cousin in Alaska…small world.

Cool. Ya going on the one with Indigo Girls? I would love to do that one but we are doing HI in April so can't swing that one! We did the Cayamo cruise Feb 08 that had IG and Brandi Carlile and it was AWESOME! Best cruise ever. I highly recommend music cruises if you love music. Have fun on the Olivia cruise. We have never been on Olivia either and feel that they are just too expensive!! You will have to let us know how it went!

We would love to do a music cruise. Shawn Mullins mentioned this once in concert. We've checked out a few (Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris, IG's, Lyle Lovett...), but the timing never seems to work. One of these days... In the meantime, we're pretty spoiled music-wise, living in Athens, GA, even though our favorite venue was destroyed by fire in June (and the famed "Uptown Lounge" has been closed quite a while).

Hope all of you have great cruises - thanks again!

Haven't been on the boards for awhile. Anyone done the Ft. Lauderdale R/T Panama Canal Cruise? Does the ship actually sail the canal? My partner and I thinking about this cruise in late 2011 or early 2012.

Our next up will be our first cruise with Olivia -- the Western Caribbean in early March. Can't wait!

First, let me say to igfan and adventuregrrl that it is indeed a very small world; my partner and I are in DC, so we are all neighbors. Also, adventuregrrl, we are Maryland basketball season ticketholders and super fans, so if you are heading to a game this season, feel free to email me and maybe we can meet up (email: guntergirl2008 AT msn.com).

As for cruising with Olivia ... we have been on two Olivia cruises, Caribbean in the early 90s and Alaska in 1998, and enjoyed them both very much. But as igfan noted, you pay a huge "lesbian premium" to sail with Olivia, and could do the same itinerary for far, far less on a non-Olivia cruise. Granted, it's not the same, not in terms of the entertainment or the "ambiance." Olivia does a great job, but at a great price. (And with fewer cruises to choose from, we've had scheduling problems with them.)

The culture has changed so much for the better that, two winters ago, we decided to go on a "regular," non-Olivia cruise, a week in the Caribbean, and had a great time. So much so that we are giving it another try on an even longer cruise in the Med in a couple of months. We'll see how it goes!

AG, we hope you have fun on the March cruise!

I haven't been on the boards since June. So glad to see this thread is still so active! Anyone going on a Chrsitmas cruise this year? We've moved from Idaho to Florida (Holiday..near Clearwater) and are considering RCCL's Granduer of the Sea out of Tampa on 12/21/09. Anxious to see if any "family" are planning on this sailing.

I just wanted to welcome you to FL!

AnitaMarie & I haven't really been on the boards since our last cruise in May this year and we're also glad that this thread is still "alive & kickin" (we love this thread)!

As Anita said in her post above, we just booked on the Emerald Princess for June 2010...WE ARE VERY EXCITED!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Happy Holidays All

I'm glad that this group is still here. There's a lot of information here

We have booked our first Mediterranean cruise with NCL for Dec 2010. Then we plan on staying in Paris for Christmas next year. This will be a Birthday present for my partner(50) and a anniversary present (28yrs).

Okay, new to this board. My partner and I cruised to Alaska on NCL in May 08, then Western Caribbean in March 09. We are booked to go to on RC Navigator of the Seas Feb 22/10, also from Barcelona on NCL on July 4/10 and then in March 2011 on Carnival Glory Eastern Caribbean, I think. Anyone on these?

Hey there. We are counting down to our first cruise together. Going on the Carnival Pride out of Baltimore on January 31st. Wondering if anyone else might be on this cruise as well? We'd love to have some other fun girls to hang with.

We'd also like to know if anyone has ever cruised on the Carnival Pride? Just wondering how gay friendly it is?

Thanks so much!

Happy cruising! :)

My partner & I haven't cruised on the Pride but we have cruised on the Carnival Valor (May, 2008) and the Carnival Freedom (May, 2009). To be honest, Carnival is our favorite cruise line!

On the Valor in 2008, we sailed with a group of women (mostly lesbians) and we had no problems whatsoever! They have meetings called "Friends of Dorothy" usually at one of the bars. There weren't very many "family" members that attended but we had a good time anyway.

Before our cruise on the Freedom last year, we met a couple here on the boards that were really cool! We hung out with them on the ship and we even met other female and male couples!

You shouldn't have any trouble with the crew or anything either. We had no problems when we asked for the beds to be put together and our cabin stewards have always been great!

Enjoy your cruise ladies!

Angel :)

My partner and I were on this cruise 11/15/09 and found it to be very welcoming. They had an FOD every night in the casino lounge which was fun and well attended. The cabins on the cruise were pretty small compared to Carnival but the food and activities were great (try the martini tasting and the enchanted dinner). We did shore excursions at every port and enjoyed them all. Costa Maya-Kohunlich Ruins, Santo Tomas- can't remember what it was called but we cruised up river to Livingston and a school, Belize-cave tubing and zip lining, Cozumel -dolphin push pull swim(my number #1). We spent 5 days on NOLA and had a blast

My partner and I are booking our first cruise on HAL Eurodam March 20 2010. We chose it for the itinerary and HAL's reputation for quality.

Has anyone cruised HAL/Eurodam? What was your experiance? Is there anyone going to be on this cruise?

My partner and 4 of our friends went on the Eurodam this past December and had great time. I had the best dining steward I have EVER had. There were GLBT meetings a few times during the week. The ship is very beautiful but I will say there were a TON of people in the 70's and 80's range.

I think you will have a great time.
