Mish1 Posted January 27, 2007 #26 Share Posted January 27, 2007 My parents are on her now. They said that she is going slow but are by Sandy Hook. My dad said they should be going under the bridge by 10. Docking at 12.30, could be earlier. Hope that helps. Have Fun.
Sea King Posted January 27, 2007 #27 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Thank you sail7seas for mentioning the crew. Its always a pain for cruisers to have to rearrange thier plans due to a late arrival but most of the Indonesian & Filipino crew have been onboard for a year or more. Hopefully they can also get flights home. U4EA FYI shore leave is not allowed in NY for crew leaving the ship. They have to be taken to the airport and leave the USA before the ship departs. well put Bishop and S7S everyone but the two of you has concentrated on the passengers .. it will be "to say the least" inconvenient for everyone but the those crew leaving will suffer the most .. a missed international flight is much more difficult to deal with than a missed domestic .. as importantly, the crew is deemed "in transit" and therefore is not allowed to "roam about" on US soil this will be a long day for everyone sailing Noordam including the crew that must get the ship ready to leave for the next voyage
u4ea Posted January 27, 2007 #28 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Agreed to last comments, I had no bad intent, and forgot how strict things are, thanks for passing on all the info. Bon Voyage, Mark…
sail7seas Posted January 27, 2007 #29 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Sea King (or anyone) .... IF crew people miss their flights, is sitting in the International Terminal awaiting their rescheduled flight considered to have 'left the U.S.'? Does the ship have to wait to sail until all have actually boarded planes? How would they know who was still in the terminal? I have seen crew members board buses that take them to the airport and have seen them accompanied (presumably in the event they need assistance of some sort)....... Once they have been brought to the airport, does the ship consider they have left the U.S.? What happens to the crew people with tickets which need to be exchanged and there might be an increased charge? Will HAL pay for the difference in their fare? Do they have to bear that burden? I know these are technical questions, probably none of my business and can understand if no one wishes to respond.
sgttami Posted January 27, 2007 Author #30 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Good Morning Do you know where they where when they found out about being late. Thank you Johnny Cruise:) Good morning. Sorry, I don't know where they were when she e-mailed only that it was about 1:30PM when the message was sent. The only other comment was, "this is one scary ride." We had a smiliar ride coming back on Explorer of the Seas in October. I can only imagine that since the Noordam is smaller, it must be really be rockin'... Someone else said that they heard that the ship is near Sandy Hook. If that's the case, It could be coming in sooner than 2:00. I'll post if I get any other updates... Krazy Kruizers Posted January 27, 2007 #36 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Sail you have a good question. I hope that HAL does right by the crew and helps to make other flight arrangements for them and picks up any additional costs of airfare, maybe food and hotel should they have to stay overnight because of flight changes. I know these are technical questions, probably none of my business and can understand if no one wishes to respond. If crew have been cleared by CBP before they leave the ship then they are treated as normal in-transit travelers. Should they miss their flight then they can rearrange their flight and wait for it in the lounge. I doubt that a ship would be prevented from sailing in those circumstances. If there are any charges then their company, HAL in this case, would pay upfront. Most cruise companies have accounts with the airlines. However if they deliberately miss their flight I am sure CBP would become involved. If CBP has denied normal clearance, or as in the case of NY, the flight is after the ship has sailed then the crew are required to be escorted to the airport and guarded until their flight departs. Hope this helps!
innlady1 Posted January 27, 2007 #38 Share Posted January 27, 2007 That's true...the last report was that it would get in at 2. What a day it will be on the Noordam! BTW, anyone on the 2/7 cruise, please go over to the Roll Call board...we have a great group of folks there! Our Meet & Greet (or, Meet & Mingle!) is scheduled for 2/8 from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Piano Bar.

mamaofami Posted January 27, 2007 #42 Share Posted January 27, 2007 We are leaving on the Noordam on 2/7 and I've been following today's events in NY. I read that many of the crew are leaving the ship today. Does that mean that the staff will all be new, or that some will be rotated from another ship, or exactly what will happen? It sounded as though people were talking about lots of crew leaving. I'd be curious to know when someone gets the real skinny on why the ship was so late and "why the bow is digging in"? What time did she actually arrive in port, and anyone want to take a gess as to when she will depart? My guess is not much before 7 or 8pm. jeffs55 Posted January 27, 2007 #43 Share Posted January 27, 2007 It was quite a storm Friday AM, a force 10 gale according to the captain. There was one system up by Halifax, and another off North Carolina. Every so often the swells would "sync" and a huge wave would crash into the bow. It was quite a ride. Great trip overall, very smooth until late Thursday/Early Friday. About 80 cast and crew are leaving today so there will be some new faces. Will we have an "all new" crew? I watched the Noordam come in on the webcam and it was about 11:30, if that was accurate. innlady
