msweezie99 Posted July 28, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2004 Hi, sailing Enchantment in Feb, first cruise. I am shopping now for my summer wear and wonder if anyone has any input as to the temperature in the dining room. All the formal wear is sleeveless or short short sleeved, and I am always concerned about being cold!! Especially when the guys get to wear a jacket, and I am sleeveless. Has this ever been an issue with anyone? Thanks
senior lady Posted July 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2004 I have the same question. I'm sailing on the Radiance to Hawaii and wondering how chilly the main dinning room is???
JanetMarie Posted July 28, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2004 Lovely ship the Enchantment! We really loved sailing her. For me, I find that ALL the dining rooms are cold. I take a light sweater to throw over my shoulders. I also have a lovely velvety wrap that I take because most of the nights, if not all, DH and I dress for dinner. So the velvet wrap goes better than the sweater. :p
wyeanni Posted July 28, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2004 I agree you will NEED a wrap or sweater of some kind. It is very cool in the dining rooms sometimes you have to outside to warm up. Anni in MD
LARGIN Posted July 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2004 It can get a bit cool especially if you are sitting close to or under an air vent
gracesgems Posted July 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2004 :p Hi I always take a light wrap (in a netural color that will go with all my formal ware) I have been on approx 8 cruises on differant lines and the dinning room is ALWAYS cool to me. I also take a light sweater to carry on those other nights. Happy sailing and don't forget to sign up for your meet and greet parties. gracesgems
trish1c Posted July 28, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2004 While I don't know for sure, I suspect the temp in the dining room is the same temp as the walk in refrigerators on board. :p
Froufie Posted July 28, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 28, 2004 I plan on bringing my black crepe blazer (to go w/black pants and different tops) as well as a lightweight black sweater which should go w/most of my outfits. My formal both have long sleeves (altho they are pretty sheer)....otherwise I guess I'm going to freeze! :D
msweezie99 Posted July 29, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted July 29, 2004 Very glad that I asked that question, I anticipated the exact answers that I got......a shopping I will go. thanks
Coolmama_1 Posted July 29, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 29, 2004 I would take a sweater or shawl because most public rooms can be cold. Better to have it with you than be miserable all week. Have a great time!
cruisin' scrapper Posted July 29, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 29, 2004 What I don't understand is why they have to make it so cold? This applies to "land" restaurants, too. The only thing I can think of is for the comfort of the staff, who moves around a lot more than the diner. I for one, hate going to dinner & freezing the whole time. Not only am I uncomfortable while I'm supposed to be enjoying myself, half the time my food gets cold before I have time to finish it! :(
O2cruise Posted July 30, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 30, 2004 ahhh Scrapper, I completely agree with you. I hate going to restaurants in the summer because I freeze to death!!! If there's no patio dining, we just call and order stuff to go.
gopher's girl Posted July 30, 2004 #13 Share Posted July 30, 2004 On the last formal night there were lots of ladies in sleeveless dresses, including me - but we all had bottles of bubbly on the table to keep us warm!
lszu Posted July 30, 2004 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2004 I agree about the air conditioning in resturants (and on board). I wait all year to be warm. I don't want to go out and freeze! To answer the original question. It's usually cool (if not cold) in the dining rooms / lounges. Bring a wrap.
MrsPete Posted August 6, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 6, 2004 We all know that formalwear, while lovely and fun, is not very sensible. Men wear long sleeves and jackets while women wear sleeveless dresses! I agree with the others who've recommended shawls or wraps.
