Fox News. It isn't exactly Fair and Balanced, but then, neither is CNN. I figure if I can get both sides of the propaganda, they might somehow meet in the middle and provide some semblance of truth.

I'm actually much happier if I do without the news entirely. :)

Something New: Seamobile's Wave Entertainment System!

Assuming that the inclusion of networks like CNN, Fox (and Fox News), ESPN and the majors -- CBS, ABC and NBC -- are offered on your hypothetically new Wave Entertainment TV system onboard, what other networks offer must-see-tv during your vacation. And if your faves aren’t represented below -- reply with your picks here.

The possibility of having the best of both worlds; Turner Classic Movies and being on international waters! Wooooooooooooooooooow! I can always use some Gene Kelly and Doris Day therpy.

I don't believe this...to go on vacation, to me, means getting away from it all. If I end up duplicating conditions at home I may as well save my money and not go.My vote is for throwing the TV into the sea...I should have booked a balcony room!

sfbaycruise - "the only reliable source of tv news is Deutsche Welle or BBC World"

I don't know about the German channel but BBC World is about as reliable and unbiased as the old KGB propaganda machine.

paulwn - "American ESPN, can't stand soccer on all day every day. No flames from the soccer fans, just my opinion"

No flames, just lots of sympathy for your misguided tastes.

I'd like anything that will bring live feeds of the English Premier League (soccer) and also cricket matches, and Eurosport.

I don't need to know all the bad news that's going on. It'll still be there when I get home from my holiday.

When I'm on a cruise, I like the ISOLATION. Do I really need to bring that much of home with me? I go somewhere different to do something different!

With that said, the TV is useful as background when getting dressed and is great as a late-night lullaby, but I prefer ship's programming: replays of all the missed shows and events (even the corny ones :)), ship technical info & trivia, port of call videos, etc.

As far as media connections to the real world, if something big happened back in reality, I would find out anyway via gossip or TV playing at the bars, etc.

As far as personal connections to home, it's enough to know that the internet cafe is available. I like to limit these visits to a couple of quickie emails as needed, to check that everyone back home is well, or perhaps to alert them about a big Bingo or casino win :) (Wishful thinking here...but I did win a free cruise for two at Bingo once, and the email came in very handy!)

Soapbox warning:

It bothers me that instead of enjoying different experiences in different places, we'll soon be seeing a Margaritaville or (your favorite place name here) at every port, etc etc, and what's next? McD's, KFC, Fridays, Starbucks in Cozumel, Ocho Rios, and (your favorite port name here)? Don't we get enough at home?

And Johnny Rockets at sea? Is this really necessary as an extra expense item? Are they not in/near enough malls? Plus, I love Ben & Jerry's and stock it in my fridge 24x7, but I don't need it on a cruise. I know they still serve free soft serve, but how much longer before Ben & Jerry is used as an excuse to remove the freebie ice cream and further erode the value? And are we then phasing out hotdogs and burgers form the Lido-area grills?

As a testament to this, I think you'll find many experienced cruisers on these boards who feel that dining has gone downhill since the introduction of the premium $20+ restaurants. Don't get me wrong, I love the $20 restaurant concept, and feel it is a definite plus for that special occasion or dinner, but when bean counters use it as an excuse to reduce the quality of the regular dining room experience, then I have a problem.

And don't get me started on the day when someone is going to interrupt my peace and quiet on deck with a business call on their cell phone, or the production shows are interrupted with the cacophony of multiple cell phones ringing.

I know the cruise companies are trying to maximize the experience with enough diverse, 'safe', and 'liked' activities to keep people satisfied, but are we bringing a bit too much of home with us? Are we killing the cruise experience? Are they catering too much to the person who can't even go a WEEK without missing Survivor or American Idol?

And is it a mistake to cater directly to this person, and lose those who don't want others cell phone conversations interrupting their experience?

Hi all,

Well, there are some other channels that I enjoy watching, they are:

HGTV

TNT

Weather channel

The Movie Channel

Are just a few. I pretty much spend most of my TV watching time(which isn't much) watching the food network and HGTV.

The Travel Channel, National Geographic Channel, Discovery Science, Discovery Times, Discovery Military, History Channel International, and Comedy Central.

Though I don't really watch that much TV on vacation, it'd be nice to have these as options.

fox news is number one!

I can do without the slanted international CNN:eek:

something that carries US sports - March Madness not cricket and soccer-

provide a choice, :)

If CNN is slanted, FOX is most certainly tilted! If the earth was flat it would fall off on the right hand end!
