Hi Den....we're all still waiting for you to come get us with your boat. Just used our certs for 2 cruises on the Spirit. Looks like the Spirit will be coming to Boston next spring. Repo from New Orleans sounds good but we've been planning Alaska for 2009. :)

Just got the NCL credit card. Am I understanding this correctly? One needs 500 points to be able to get a certificate and then once you reach 500 points, you have to call them to even get the certificate and then mail it to them if you want to use it as points against final payment for a cruise?? Ex: final payment due in Sept.for a Dec cruise. Would I need to get 500 points before that final payment time and go through the procedure of asking for a certificate and then as I said mailing it to NCL a couple of weeks before Sept due date for final cruise payment? Wow! This sounds complicated.

on my NCL card I can get 250 or 500 points so check with them, I have 1000 points (2 500 point certificates) now and wil mail them to my TA when I get their final bill in a month or two for a Oct. cruise. Really not to complicated, and I am a male.

Yes, your example *mostly* seems correct, except it is not complicted at all. Some people have reported sending certs in after final pymnt and receiving credit back, but others have said it didn't work.

Here are the basic steps to the certs:

1) Accumulate at least 500 points (lowest amount that qualifies for "money towards payment", you can spend smaller amount for upgrades (but most on this board don't think upgrades are the best use of the points).

2) Call BOA and ask for the cert. If the CSR you get isn't familiar with the program, call back until you get one that is.

3) Wait for cert to arrive in the mail. Most tend to arrive within a couple of weeks.

4) Mail cert to NCL (or TA). See the beginning of this thread for mailing address and best way to mail. Also, be sure to make front/back copies of the certs prior to mailing.

This program is well worth my time to redeem the points and I've never had a problem with BOA or NCL, regarding the points.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not.

If not, making a phone call and then mailing an envelope is well worth the savings of $500.00 or more. (at least for me)

Good heavens! I wasn't being sarcastic. I just wanted to make sure I understood the various steps involved in getting the certificates etc. I appreciate those posters who explained some of the particulars.

I know you are all NCL credit card cheerleaders so you will appreciate this. We booked an 11-day Mexican Rivera cruise through CAS. The rate for an interior Category II was a total of 1782.52. We used our Freestyle Cruise Reward as our deposit leaving a balance of $1532.52. I just ordered our $1500 Compass Rewards yesterday to make sure we recieve them by the final payment date (July 30). We will now have a balance due of $32.52 as our final payment:D So out of pocket we are actually paying $182.52 for an 11-day cruise. ($150 cruise reward cost (I don't count the $100 OBC they gave us for buying it in November) and the $32.52). If there wasn't a fuel surcharge, it would have been $154 less.

Now, if I could just stay out of the casino:eek: The best deal out there for sure.

Very nice. We have saved $26,500.00 since getting our card(s) in 1995.

Wow!! That make my number look pretty anemic.

LOL, $26,500 in savings to date is anything BUT anemic on your end. It's awesome in my book!

I had no idea this card has been around for 13+ years. I figured it came out sometime in the 2000's.

rpbcouple...sounds like a good deal to me! :D Does CAS give you a price right away or do they need to get your info together? Awesome that they will also honor the cruise rewards and credit card points. Does anyone know if they also honor NCL specials, category upgrades or drops in price? At what point do they consider someone eligible for the casino discount? ;)

Washtub...how do you use 250 points? Is that for upgrade or as $$$ toward your cruise?

For anyone who has not applied for the card yet...I hesitated at 1st but it's just like everyone says. I've saved $1500 since April 2007. It's a great thing when you can save money on a cruise as a reward for spending money. :D I use to get free flights on SW air but they have made it more difficult to book free seats and I can get over $500 on NCL for what use to get me a $200 or less off a flight. ;)

Hi Kdg51: As a matter of fact, I had booked in March. About three weeks later, NCL reduced the brochure price online by about $100 pp and made the price the same for all inside categories. So they moved us to a Category II and reduced our fare by a little more than $200. They would not let me use my free upgrade which I recieved after our last cruise. However, it would not have made a difference since we are at the highest inside and I don't think you can use it to go from an inside to an oceanview.

I called CAS for the first time to book after reading about it on these boards. I gently referred to all the time we spend at the blackjack tables on our past cruises with NCL and asked if I could book through them. Although we always got a CAS card, we never bothered having the pit boss track our play because we only play $5 and $10 hands. They told me they could not give us any comps but they could book the cruise for me. They were very nice on the two occasions I talked to them.

rpbcouple...thank you for that info. I called this AM and talke to Ron or Rob and (we) I qualify for the 17% discount. Need to call back tomorrow because they have 8 cat upgrade for Alaska and they can offer that also. :D The one cat upgrade has never worked for us either because I always find a better price than NCL offers. Will need to know exactly what I want when I call because I have to work and will be on my lunch which is less than an hour.

I'm assume that this sale isn't for inside to inside or outside to outside because they don't have that many categories for each. Thinking very high up splitting the cost with our friends for 2 bedroom? ;) Don't think we'll be concerned about any drops in price?

Next question...he said they don't offer the insurance. Who do we call and what is the best way to get this covered? Concerned about pre existing conditions which requires that we insure trip within 14 days of booking. Are medical issues from 1995 and 2005 with no symptoms since then still considered to be pre existing?

With a day and a half to solve all these issues and get the time off from a work schedule that doesn't exist yet I find this all very overwelming...but I'll be OK once it is done! :D

Hi kdg51

Go to Insuremytrip.com and you can see all of the different companies and criteria for each. I have used them in the past.

Did CAS tell you that you will get a separate CAS card with a label which will get you free drinks in the casino? That's worth something alone. The only thing is some people are saying that the casinos are now offering free drinks quite frequently to everyone while playing.
