All things Jewel of the Seas!

Recommended Posts

We're doing a TA in March and have cabin 7592. Has anyone stayed in this cabin? Also, do you think a cat D1 has that much more room than the E1s' to make an upgrade worthwhile?

We haven't been on the Jewel but have seen cabin 7592 on her sister ships Serenade and Radiance. This cabin is in a great location with a larger balcony. A D1 cabin has a 3 section couch and the E1 cabin has a smaller 2 section counch. The rest of the cabin is the same. The picture shown below is from the RCI website and makes the cabin look a bit bigger than it is.

We took the Jewel's 8 day Eastern caribbean cruise - got off Dec 9. It is truly a beautiful ship and never seemed crowded. You must find the SeaView Cafe. We did not discover it until our last day and never had an opportunity to eat there but the location is fabulous. Also the Solarium has a cafe that makes crepes - what a great snack in the afternoon. The Solarium pool is so peaceful and beautifully decorated. We also loved the look of the Schooner bar. I could go on and on, wish we were back on the Jewel versus the cold weather we are getting now!

Suzy -

Thanx for the info on the D1 cabin. I was wondering where the extra 25 sq ft difference was between the E1 and D1 cabins. I thought the D1 cabin might be wider but it sounds like it's just a little longer. And you're right about the RC website cabin pics too - it makes the cabins look longer than they are.

We just got off the Jewel yestarday from a 6 nite Western Caribbean Cruise. She is indeed a beautiful ship, with wonderful food in the main dining rooms and specialty restaurants, and the most friendly staff. We loved the Christmas decorations, glass elevators, and Solarium. Everything is shiny and new after the refurb. And Lobster is back! :)

I'm going on Jewel in 3 weeks (6 nights, Western Caribbean). So, how was the lobster? Was it the tail or that small entire lobster people were complaining about? Do tell.

Also, anything else I should make a point of doing or not doing? How was Belize? Playa del Carmen?

We had two formal nights on our six-nighter last year. Which ports do you stop in? We did the RCI cooking class in Cozumel, and it was a lot of fun - you get to cook a meal while sipping or swilling your beverage of choice. You also get some time to hang out at the beach before the bus goes back to town. We stopped in Costa Maya, and did a tour of the ruins with Ivan & David, but isn't the pier still closed? In Grand Cayman we did a stingray excursion with Nativeway that including a visit to Stingray City and a bit of snorkelling. In Key West we went to the Audobon House & wandered around town.

Pumbaamd

Formal nights are the night we leave Key West and what used to be Belize which is now Playa Del Carmen.

I'm taking bets if RCCL changes the itinerary again before the cruise.:D

GALDARNIT!!! I am going to ask the moderator to close down this thread!!! THE JEWEL OF THE SEAS is the best kept secret in RCI!!! With all you people talking about it the secret won't stay secret too long!!! THE JEWEL IS A JEWEL!!! She is the most beautiful ship in the world...she is the likely successor to the RCI SUN VIKING...that many of you will remember as the most beloved ship in RCI.

We were on Jewel of the Seas for a repositioned cruise to Europe in the Spring of 2005. We loved the ship and thought it was by far the prettiest of any ship we'd been on. Be sure and find the Seaview Cafe. I think that's what it's called. It's up on the top deck and is a well kept secret. We had most of our lunches there and loved being able to sit out on the deck to enjoy our lunch. Wonderful Rueben sandwiches if you like them. The only negative thing for us on the ship is that there are only two banks of elevators on the ship. One at the front of the ship and one in the middle. You guessed it, our room was clear at the back so it made for a lot of walking to get to the elevator. Why they built the Jewel that way beats me. Trust me, you'll love the Jewel.

We are looking forward to our eight day cruise on the Jewel leaving on February 23rd. This is one of the few threads that have yet to be taken over by the whinners! Maybe they will stay off of the ship!

We just got home from the 6 nighter. Formals on nights 2 and 4. Jewel is absolutely beautiful, we like her much more than the Mariner (and we loved the Mariner.) She feels like a very large, elegant yacht, as opposed the the floating hotel or resort of other ships.

In Belize we went up to Jaguar Paw Jungle Resort with NCQ Adventure Tours, cave-tubing and ziplining in the rainforest. We had our kids with us who had been studying the rainforest and Maya culture in school, and as luck would have it, we had a Mayan tour guide who knew just about everything about the rainforest, and the ancient Maya and how they used the caves. It was the perfect balance of education and adventure.

Playa was a great port, the town itself has lots to do, but we rented a car and did Tulum. Then we stopped at Hidden Worlds and snorkled the underground cenotes/river. Wow, what a unique experience that was. We finished up the day at the beach in Akumal.

Our only complaint the whole week would be about room service. We like breakfast on the balcony, but the food did not arrive within our requested window. The first morning it was 20 minutes late (windows are 30 minutes long.) The second morning we just gave up after an extra 30 minutes and went to the Windjammer. The Windjammer turned out to be much better and less crowded than we anticipated so it all worked out, but we did miss our private balcony breakfasts.

The burgers and cubans at Seaview were sooo good. I'll take Seaview over Johnny Rockets every time.

The ship never felt crowded and we never got that herded cattle feeling you sometimes get on the big ships. It was really a great week.

I know they changed the itinerary of the 6 night western (switched Belize and Playa) for some of the upcoming sailings. However, I think when we are sailing in Feb it is still the original itinerary, correct? I need to know when/if they change it because I booked a private excursion in Belize.

Do they send you an email notice if the itinerary changes?

All these posts are making me so excited to sail on the Jewel!

They changed our Belize and PDC a few weeks ago. We did not find out till we got on the ship. We also had a private excursion in Belize (Major Tom cavetubing) and I emailed him when I found out but he already knew about the changes so maybe your excursion would know also.

We sail on Jewel Jan. 6. Out intin has been changed twice (so far). We've never received an official notice of either change. You just have to check your ressie from time to time online and/or stay tuned to Cruise Critic. You should contact your excursion provider and confirm dates.

39August, By any chance would the Rusty in the Champagne Bar be the same Rusty who was on the Brilliance a few years ago? If so I agree he is an asset for those who will be joining the DW and I on the Jan 12th cruise. This will be our third Radiance Class cruise and of all the various ship sizes and cruise lines we enjoy the Radiance class the best.

Hey Plumbaamd, we crusied with you and your wife a while back and it looks like we just missed being on the same ship once again by six days. Our loss, you guys were great table mates. Have a great cruise and leave a few bottles at the champagne bar for us.

John
