Host Kewlguy Posted February 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Thanks, that is just what I wanted to know! BTW, you have to call C&A and request the amenity. They won't just give it to you automatically.

Tony, do you know if you get ANY choice on the wine? I would pay them to take a bottle of LaTerre OUT of my cabin!
Host Kewlguy Posted February 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Tony, do you know if you get ANY choice on the wine? I would pay them to take a bottle of LaTerre OUT of my cabin! We asked for the tote bag (well, technically I didn't) so I'm not sure about a choice of the wine. My best guess is you will get whatever they offer. :)
critterchick Posted February 20, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Tony, do you know if you get ANY choice on the wine? I would pay them to take a bottle of LaTerre OUT of my cabin! I know! I know! I just talked to the DP desk today and they've expanded their wine offerings in response to requests/demands to do so. My cat wrecked my desk (I just found the staple remover 6 feet away), but a the basic DP level you can at least get a Woodbridge (Mondavi) Chardonnay. At 49+ credits you get more choices (and 2 amenities on a 7+ night cruise).
suzyluvs2cruise Posted February 20, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Tony, do you know if you get ANY choice on the wine? I would pay them to take a bottle of LaTerre OUT of my cabin! We were offered a choice of wine for our Feb 25 cruise on the Monarch. We chose Caliterra Colchagua Merlot from Chile. Hopefully we get what we asked for. ;)

Thanks for the laugh!!!! LaTerre gives me a horrible headache even after one glass. I too would pay to make it go away.
Host Kewlguy Posted February 20, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Here's a laugh. When we reached Diamond Plus this past December I called C&A to request my amenity for our Navigator cruise in January and the customer service rep acted like she had no idea what personal amenity I was talking about. She actually denied knowing they even existed. I had to explain to her what they were and that we were entitled to one. Good grief, talk about untrained employees. Next time just hit 9 when you get the recorded message. It takes you to the DP desk.:) I've heard RCI crew/staff refer to La Terre as "La Terrible" and "Carwash wine." The CD on Radiance mentioned that "La Terre" means "the earth," and you'd know why as soon as you tasted it because it tastes like dirt. You'd think RCI would find another inexpensive (but not cheap) wine to replace it. We've had a grape glut in California for years now, and even Two Buck Chuck would be a step up IMHO. If the franchising contract with Johnny Rocket's has been so successful, maybe they SHOULD try an arrangement with Trader Joe's for the Two Buck Chuck! I keep hearing about it, but it's illegal in PA for anyone but the State Stores to sell wine.

At that point you should try an inexpensive French wine, although I don't know anything about those....
GMoney Posted February 20, 2008 #14 Share Posted February 20, 2008 A beach towel and a bottle of Korbel are also on the list of options.
desertheat Posted February 20, 2008 #15 Share Posted February 20, 2008 The beach towel is well worth it (a $25 value) and is nice and thick with the RCI logo. Great if you have a pool or spa. Agree, the La Terre we had went down the drain. That really was cheap wine.
caviargal Posted February 20, 2008 #16 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Tony, do you know if you get ANY choice on the wine? I would pay them to take a bottle of LaTerre OUT of my cabin! They would not even let us trade in the LaTerre and pay the difference towards a decent bottle on JOS. We ended up leaving it in our stateroom. amickeyfriend Posted February 20, 2008 #17 Share Posted February 20, 2008 I've been taking the beach towel lately. They used to offer the fresh flowers, but that required 49+ cruises now. I agree the towel is well worth it. I didn't know there was a tote bag available. Anyone have a picture of it? RCI used to call about a week in advance. Lately I have called them to make my request. PH8 Posted February 20, 2008 #18 Share Posted February 20, 2008 The tote bag is the nicest thing they offer.........it is the same one they offer in Gifts and Gear just doesnt have that fanny pack or whatever that is in front........... I think we have had every amenity,so now we just get the Chardonnay...........even though I prefer red,I do not like the Caliterra Merlot they offer........ They will call you 2 weeks out(more or less) to offer you the amenity and if available an upgrade.......(fat chance of those lately unless you have like 100 credits).they call you in order.......those with the most get called first...... Tote bag Bottle of white wine--Mondavi Twin Oaks Chardonnay bottle of red wine--Caliterra merlot Korbel RCL logo beach towel Choc strawberries(you get 4) Fruit basket slippers

Actually we had to follow up with our request because we didn't get anything when we boarded the ship. Also a friend of ours who is DP never got anything on her recent cruise. I told her to call and ask next time. No one even told her she was eligible to receive anything. My guess is they're not calling anymore.
gotmilk Posted February 20, 2008 #20 Share Posted February 20, 2008 I guess DH and I hit the jackpot on our first D+ cruise because we both received a beach towel. They are big and thick so make sure you have room in your suitcase to pack it.

My guess is they're not calling anymore. They called us about a week or so before our recent Legend of the Seas cruise. We weren't home when they called so they left a voicemail message with a number to call. We called and requested the tote bag and it was delivered to us when we boarded the ship. We also got an upgrade to a JS about two weeks before the cruise, which was a nice bennie.:) Some things (like my rental tux) were mistakenly delivered to our original stateroom but they were eventually redirected to our new location.
cruisegirl1 Posted February 20, 2008 #22 Share Posted February 20, 2008 We also got a note in our cabin inviting us to tour the bridge, galley or theater back stage The is only for 7 days and up. Just got the standard offered amenity choice on a short cruise. I echo - get rid of La Terra M
NEARING 100 CRUISES Posted February 20, 2008 #23 Share Posted February 20, 2008 We have been diamond + for four years. Last Fall on the Vision we were denied the beach towel. They said it was because we sailed with a group. What an excuse. They kept the towel. It is not worth the time arguing with the C+A people. They can keep their gifts.

Sequim88 Posted February 20, 2008 #25 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Totally ignorant question from...I think our level is Lead or Tin or something:D ..that is, someone yet to board 1st RCCL cruise.... I have an aversion to loyalty programs because they are usually like slot clubs at Las Vegas casinos....you have to "maintain" a level with consistant activity or else get demoted. Does the C&A program require a frequency level as well as a total number or in other words do old cruises "expire" so that you must keep up a set level? Or are they for life? If we like RCCL we might get to the point where we can cruise once a year and accumulate enough to rise above base metal level...but it will take a few years.
