Does anyone actually order room service on a cruise?

We love it when we come back from being on shore. When we go to St Maarten, we go to a small casino for pretty much most of the day. We then come back and order something from room service.

 

In St Thomas, we are off the ship and busy all day so we do the same. I am guessing that when we go on Glory in February, we will do the same as well as order when we come back from Nassau.

 

A sandwich is great upon returning.

We ordered room service just this past Saturday Night on the Legend. Alabama (Roll Tide) was playing LSU and we could NOT miss the game even for the dining room. :)

We did the exact same thing on the legend this past week. Couldn't miss a minute of that game!!!! We order room service all the time - breakfast, dinner and mid afternoon and late night snacks!:D

Everyone has different preferences and experiences. I know I am rarely one to order room service, whether traveling for work or for pleasure, and especially on a cruise! I think the dining room ambience lends itself to being part of the vacation for me..."fine dining" at sea, as it were. That isn't to say that if I was totally bushed from being ashore all day, doing things in the heat, I might not call up the cabin steward and ask for some refreshments...but it is just less likely for me than for others.

 

I know folks who take cruise vacations to spend the time relaxing in bed and enjoying the pampering of being on a cruise...one of those things happens to be room service.

 

I do have to admit, cruising during playoffs is always a challenge to enjoy the dining room AND keep up with the games. I would often, in formal dress, trot upstairs to the sports bar where folks were watching the game and update the table on the latest score!

It came in handy when my family insisted on the late seating and my internal clock is set to eat at 5:30! (Hypoglycemic: regular meals are a must!) I'd order a sandwich in the late afternoon to tide me over and it worked fine. The portion sizes are fairly small so it wasn't like I was eating 2 suppers.

I would imagine that some people after a couple rounds of balcony olympics dont want to get dressed again and schlep to the Lido deck because of a late case of the munchies...

We order room service a lot. When else can you order anything you want from room service, and not have it break the bank?

 

Typically, we order it in the afternoon. On port days, everyone is ready for a snack after we get back from snorkeling, swimming, whatever. We're also tired, and if I want the kids to make it through dinner, I know better than to ask them to sit through a lunch, too. Besides, we all have to get ready for dinner, so a room service snack works out perfectly.

 

On sea days, the kids are usually busy with activities, and don't want to slow down to eat, other than grabbing a slice of pizza or a cup of ice cream. By the time we start getting ready for dinner, they're hungry and need something to tide them over. On the other hand, dh likes to do as close to nothing as possible while at sea. A pina colada and an open faced shrimp sandwich out on the balcony is about as good as it gets!

 

On sea days we have family and friends over and everyone brings a dish to share from room service!

 

 

OMG--this is a great idea--a cruise ship potluck! We have our first extended family cruise coming up, and we'll definitely be adding an afternoon of "room service hors d'oeuvres" to the itinerary.

One thing we do, if we are in a port for the day, and do not want to come back to the ship for lunch, we will order room service sanwiches in the morning before we leave, put them in ziplock baggies, and take them with us, so we dont have to pay for food off the ship.

When you work 16 hour shifts 6 times out of the week, the last thing I need is to be running around the ship, this is the only time I have to get some needed sleep. Movies I haven't seen are an added bonus.

Nothing beats a cup of coffee while ship is sailing and all are sleeping and I watch the waves -breathe SEA AIR on my lounge chair on Balcony

Breakfast on the fly on early port days was a breeze thanks to room service.

 

Was sick as a dog with an upper respiratory infection that was going around the ship....

 

Had room service bring me several shots of Dr. Jack, hot water, lemon and honey more than once.

 

God bless them...they were tipped well and their efforts allowed me to persevere through the last few days of my cruise!

 

Make sure you tip these guys and gals!

I have never had breakfast or dinner at the buffet on any of my cruises. I order the breakfast salmon and bagel every morning I'm on a cruise with juice etc. I eat every dinner in the main dining room. I relax by the pool on the sea days and I'm very active in ports. I am usually up late at night at shows, casino's etc at night depending on what line I'm on. Best nightlife for adults is definately on DCL--rarely get back before 2:am on DCL

on our ship will be thankful for room service is any of my little ones is having a bad day. I would much rather be in my room eating a sandwhich and rocking one of my kids to sleep rather than having them scream or just not be in a good mood in the dining room.

 

Room service is also a great way to get food into little ones that wake up pretty early and young children tend to graze all day. By the time you get the dress, pack them up, find a table, get food, bring it back to the table at the buffet - their 30 minutes of being perfect angels has about passed. Would much rather order room service, pop in a Dora the Explorer or Backyardigans DVD and wait for someone else to prepare the plates.

 

Plus - having a nice snack while I am in the cabin with the kids napping I am very much looking forward to. Just packed my books for some nice reading to the sound of snoring kids :D

 

So yup - there are folks that do have a meal (or two) a day in their room on a regular basis.

 

But for moms and dads with young kids - a week without having to cook or wash dishes is well worth the price of admission :p
