Does anyone actually order room service on a cruise?

I mainly did the breakfast when my DH was confined to quarters when he was sick on one of our cruises. By rights I should have been in the cabin also. I was walking around with pnuemonia and did not know it.

So you're the thoughtful person who passed pneumonia on to me? 2 weeks in the hospital when I got home. Thanks!

If you are sick go to the Dr. and if confined stay in your room, please.

I love coffee and juice from RS to wake up to but that's all I've ever used it for. I'm thinking a BLT and a cold beer on my balcony will hit the spot on my next cruise.

Fun question, by the way.

I order RS in am for the yummy danishes! (My hubby and daughter are not early risers like me so I need a little something before breakfast.) We sometimes order sandwiches in the afternoon after excursions and before our late dinner seating. I also love the cookie and brownie plate! Yum!:)

Other than the menu you hang on your door for breakfast? Seriously why would anyone eat a full meal in their cabin??

I say the same thing about the DR, why would anyone want to dress up and eat in the DR every night?....To each there own.

Specifically regarding the RS dinner though, have had RS dinner delivered a couple times on RCI when i wanted a quiet night in with the other half......

Again, to each there own...

Happy Cruising!

What a fun thread, I just ate dinner and it's making me HUNGRY!!

I have only ordered breakfast through room service, especially the morning coffee. I absolutely need coffee to do ANYTHING in the morning. I've occasionally ordered a pot in the afternoon too. In the p.m., my usual routine is to have the sushi, love it and it tides me over until late dinner.

I sure wish CCL had hot room service breakfast like RCCL. If I'm going to have breakfast, I want a hot one, so after my room service coffee, I usually go up to the lido for breakfast. Sausage and scrambled eggs is so awesome on your balcony as you are pulling into port. It's the one thing I do miss on Carnival.

Now I might have to try some of those yummy sandwiches ya'll are talking about. Maybe after laying out all morning.... or for a late night snack. Usually we fall into bed and quickly lapse into unconsciousness. But next cruise we have 4 sea days, I'm sure we'll be calling ruin sorbees, oops, room service, more often.

Oh to answer the tipping questions, I usually tip a buck or two for just coffee and at least a couple bucks for a larger meal. At least that's what we've tipped on RCCL.

Thanks, well I had read in other threads that some people (on Carnival) had packed a sandwich from the Deli for the beach, and I think it was also mentioned earlier in this thread about ordering from room service. Hmmm.. I'll have to go back and re-read the thread. I am glad that I now know not to bring food off of the ship. Thanks for letting me know.

One thing we do, if we are in a port for the day, and do not want to come back to the ship for lunch, we will order room service sanwiches in the morning before we leave, put them in ziplock baggies, and take them with us, so we dont have to pay for food off the ship.

Ok, I'm not losing it... I did read it...:D

Room service is also a great way to get food into little ones that wake up pretty early and young children tend to graze all day. By the time you get the dress, pack them up, find a table, get food, bring it back to the table at the buffet - their 30 minutes of being perfect angels has about passed.

You just reminded me of our favorite use of room service--on our first cruise (10 years ago) dd (then 15 months) fell asleep at dinner. She was out cold--head resting on a wadded up napkin on the table, and she didn't eat a single bite. No dinner? No problem--just call room service when she woke up back in the stateroom! I think it was that moment that sold me on cruising as the perfect family vacation.

Actually, yes, I try to eat every meal in the dining room. I like being waited on in a restaurant setting. I only use the buffet when I have a very early excursion or when the dining room is closed for lunch and I'm on the ship at that time. Otherwise, I eat lunch in port.

If I want to chill, I find a quiet place on deck somewhere to read and/or nap. I like being out in the fresh air. I'm only in my room to sleep, shower and change clothes.

So do we--that's why dh insists on having his shrimp sandwiches and veggies and dip out on our balcony instead of going to the dining room! :p

OP: YES! Every single day of our last cruise! It really doesn't get much better than lying in your bed and using your tv remote to order FREE food 24/7!!

Whoa--you can order room service via the tv and remote? On every ship or just certain ones? Oh man, now dh will be ordering it 3 times a day!

I don't usually order a full meal from room service but sometimes coffee and a danish in the morning or tea and cookies in the evening, it's a nice way to wind down before bed sitting on the balcony and sipping tea.

I've never cruised on Carnival before, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the turkey sandwich is real roasted turkey or if it is deli sliced turkey? May be silly but it makes a big difference to me.

I don't recall this being an option... They show the dining room menus on the TV. Anyway, that would be great to just punch in your order through your TV - kinda like a pay-per-view for a meal!

Seriously, who watches tv and movies while on a cruise. Wow, I'm amazed at the differen't ways people spend their time on board. Very interesting thread to me.

my dh and I went on our first trip alone besides a honeymoon in 27 years while I love to be served in the dining room we did spend a day or two when we stayed in the room alone. It was nice to have food delivered. This next cruise we are rooming with one of my dhs thou my other dh and her husband have offered to keep her busy every so often. lol

My wife and I like to have breakfast on our balcony.

When you come back from a shore excursion you may want to eat in your stateroom instead of going to the Lido Deck or resturant. If you wake up hungry in the middle of the night. After closing out the casino, but, then you might want to go to the 24-hour resturant. If you want to be like a hermit or if you are ill you might wish to eat in your stateroom.

Yes, on many of the cruiselines. We were on Celebrity. You use the remote to select what you want and when you want it and then you transmit the order thru the TV. LOVED IT! At night we would crawl into bed and order the next mornings breakfast so that we could be eating while getting ready in the morning. Some nights we were starving (had early seating dinner) after dancing in the clubs and we would pop on the tv and order some midnight grub.

We order from RS, almost every morning.

I am like some of the others; in-which without coffee, I am a (B)....itch in the mornings.

This cruise was the first time we ordered sandwiches and deserts. It was nice to sit out on the balcony, and have a bite of food.

Sometimes lunch, or dinner for our kids if they are not going to the dining room with us. Also, order coffee each morning. Love to be awakened that way!

I've never ordered room service while on a cruise. Not once. Ever.

I generally wake up pretty early...love walking around the empty decks. Just so serene & peaceful. I'll grab a cup of coffee by the pool (or in the library as was the case on my most recent cruise), then later have breakfast with my SO when he finally gets up.

Sooner or later I have to try it! I've been reading about the BLT's for years!

Hi All!

Me and my husband and kids will be sailing on the Victory on the 23rd. (YEA! 12 days away:D) I've been on many Carnival Cruises and never thought to order room service. But after reading this thread, with the kids being older and since we'll be on the Southern iterinary with a port everyday, ordering room service will come in handy for packing lunches for the beach and the snack when we get back from port before getting ready for dinner. I was going to go buy tons of snacks for the room "just in case" anyone gets hungry. Now, I think I'll just buy snacks for the plane rides. How long does room service take? Are they quick at bringing the food to the cabin?

I didn't think you could take food off the ship unless it was pre-packaged type snacks. I would check into that before doing that.:)

We have never ordered room service on any of our past cruises but after reading this thread it sounds like a better option than waiting for pizza or having ice cream late at night.

What is the standard tip for the servers?

a couple of bucks unless you have a big order I would give a little more for that. I had ordered coffee, croissant, juice & yogurt and gave the waiter 3 bucks. He was thrilled to pieces. We don't spend much on drinks or other ship extras so I give tips generously throughout our cruise.:D

When you sail with kids, room service is a godsend, particularly if you are leaving the little ones with a babysitter or gramma in the room while you go out...all you so is order a pizza, set them up with the tv or coloring or whatever, they don't even notice when you sneak out.;)

Last year on RCCL, my now 4 year old got addicted to the room service spinich pizza...yum!! Problem was, he expected them before bed when we got home too!:D
